MOVIE SYNOPSIS:
Dr. Shankar Chaudhry, a wealthy doctor who resides in Bombay with his younger sister, Manju, and his widowed mother, Rukmimi, finds that his mother has arranged a marriage for him with advocate Madhusudan's daughter, Maya. He concedes to the marriage, even though neither he nor his mother have met her. During the ceremony, Maya faints and recuperates under the care of her cousin, brother Prakash, and Madhusudan, and then the following day accompanies Shankar to his home. Maya rejects Shankar's sexual advances, as she is participating in a Holy Fast.
On a visit to Banaras, where Madhusudan now resides, Shankar remarries Maya at Bhagwan Vishwanath's Temple. Their relationship becomes intimate and she becomes pregnant.
Shankar arrives home one day and discovers that Prakash and Maya are missing; his search for them proves fruitless. He later learns that his wife is an imposter and that she is probably married to Prakash.

यही है साझ और सबेरा गीत को मै उस समय बचपन में गुनगुनाया करता था जब न ही गीत संगीत और सिनेमा की समझ नहीं थी आज 70 साल के उम्र में इस बेहतरीन फिल्म को देख कर अजीब अनुभूति करता हूं। लाजवाब ऋषिकेश मुखर्जी की निर्देशन,इतनी बेहतरी गुरुदत्त , मीना कुमारी, महमूद की अभिनय की फिल्म छुट्टी हुई थी। आज ये सभी कोई भी महान कलाकार इस दुनिया में नहीं है लेकिन अपने महान कला कृती छोड़ गए, इन्हे मेरा नमन।

Wow! Very good movie! I always like the films which are based on rituals and morale. Sanjh air Savers is also a such film. But film maker couldn't let the actual Maya to repent upon her deeds. At the same time Prasad and Gauri justify their role. Overall good film!

Meena Kumari is the greatest actress of all time. She's very simple, yet so natural, so elegant, so patient, so relaxed and yet so commanding in her acting. I find only Dilip Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar to be in her league. There have been other great actors in Bollywood, but to me, these were the finest leading actors of all time.

A sweet & simple movie. While the story and songs aren’t very unique, the performances make it up for it. It could have easily been a regular flick had it not been directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. His simple narrative and subtle handling of the subject makes it better. Very well written too.

मीना कुमारी जी और गुरु दत्त साहब दोनों अच्छे अदाकारा थे दोनों को मैं बहुत पसंद करती हूं इस फिल्म में काम करने वाले महेमुद साब मनमोहन कृष्ण साब मीना जी गुरु दत्त साब अब इस दुनिया में नहीं है लेकिन शुभाखोटे जी है you tube channel के जरिए उनका एक इंटरव्यू लिया तो इस फिल्म की यादें कुछ किस्से वो ताजा कर सकेंगी

I'm huge fan of Meena Kumari. My father was too & i had first listened in my childhood from my father about her beauty, glamours & acting skills. Growing up i realized this is the constant truth. 5 years ago my father passed away & Meenaji 48 years ago. May Allah grant Jannat ul Ferdaus both of them, ameen. Dilwar-->Sylhet--Bangladesh

Meena Kumari sakchhat devi ki avtar thi jise unke abhinaye me saf saf dekha ja sakta .hamne apne devi devtao ko to kabhi dekha nahi lekin inhe dekhne ke bad Mano svayam devi ki avtar ho.ham bade khus nasib hai Jo is desh me paida huye aur in klakaro ki abhinaye dekhne ka mauka Mila bhale hi 21vi Sadi me hame dekhne ko kyo n mili ho. Mai apne aap ko bada bhagyashali samajhta hu ki 20th year ke Umar me unke darshaye Gaye bhavnao ko samajhta old filme dekhne ,gane sunne ko lalait rahta hu. Aur old filmo ke prati adar ki bhavna sada mere Dil me bani rahti hai......isi liye purane log kah Gaye hai old is gold.

GuruDutt is so handsome and Meenakumari so beautiful. Overall the movie is excellant especially the songs. Semi classical song 'Ajhuna aye balaama..... sawan bita jayee' is evergreen.

Meena Kumari am watching couple of months outside India, she is creation of god heavenly beauty , whatever she does its worth watching multiple times still a enigma such a beauty and heavenly acting together with voice screen presence unforeseen never again possible to recreate , but died so early and no investigation about her death ? No punishment for the culprits?
