Why Sanju didn't make it consistently to the Indian team: 1. He debuted at the same time when MS Dhoni was playing. Being a wicket-keeper, unlike batsmen, only one wicket keeper can be in the team. That spot was reserved with MSD, after all he was the Indian Limited Overs captain till 2017, and was still a very important part of the Indian side till 2019. 2. Competition for wicket-keepers has always been on a high, as I said, only one wicket keeper get a spot in a team, unlike pure batters or bowlers, who get more opportunities as 3-4 of each play in games. 3. India's ecosystem of players is such that if a player has a sudden downfall, he is dropped, unless he's a reputed player. Sanju wasn't able to be consistent for the longest time, he still isn't consistent, neither in the IPL, nor for the Indian team. Yes, he has had lack of opportunities too, but this is a viscous cycle now, isn't it? If a player performs well, he gets more chances, but to get more chances, you have to perform well. And young players who can be replaced end up losing opportunities because of this. 4. Youngster competition is always going to be on a high, as every year hundreds of youngsters join the Indian cricket ecosystem, whether in domestic cricket, IPL or the India-A,B sides. Sanju had to initially fight for opportunity against MSD. Then Rishabh Pant got into test cricket action, where his sublime form made him the selector's favorite. India loves its multi-format players, hence Pant got more opportunities in limited overs too. Soon, Jurel, Jitesh, all these guys ended up getting chances, as they were much younger than Sanju. Sanju has had many things affecting him, up-and-down form, inconsistency, right place wrong time situations. These things made him lose his spot in the Indian team so often. He is a classy batter and a terrific wicket-keeper. I wish him all the very best to do as good as possible and WIN INDIA THE T20WC THIS YEAR!
