@@MikeUman I think its actually CPM154 now. 154cm was the older aircraft steel standard preceded by ats34 then cpm154 which is a powdered steel variant closely resembling the original in composition.

Really any stabbing situation. Especially reverse grip frame and liner locks can't be trusted at face value.

I assume if the balls are just a tad softer than the blade (or maybe same hardness) they'd get smaller in time but won't leave such a deep track in the blade. At least you could replace them. If the ceramic balls form a deep track, I don't know. On the other hand I use my Malyshev Gnome since years every day on job, after a regrind it's a really good slicer and the D2 steel holds a good edge for a long time (I speak about cutting rawhide, EVA material and such which dull a blade quickly). That knife has steel balls, no stainless washers in the titanium scales, no steel insert. Still I see no unusual wear, not on the lock, not on the blade or the Ti where the ball bearings run. Especially "replacable" steel insert. Have you ever tried to get spare parts for a China made knife? Broken clips, screws, anything?

attic42 I didn’t disassemble this one but I have done so to others like it. I just go through my allen or hex bits until I find one that fits.

I dont own these knife but it comes down to preference, if you prefer edge retention over rust resistance, i woud say the kendo woud win. I myself woud get the 1161 myself
