I love that lake haha. My biggest trout from there is 8lbs. If you're fishing bait you gotta have a short leader 12-16 inches. Don't throw it too far, since the lake is pretty deep the fish usually swim closer to shore where the water gets dark. For lures the double drop shot works really good, work it super slow. Mini jigs you have to let them fall all the way to the bottom and real ultra slow to keep them close to the bottom. Spoons work well sometimes, again you gotta let them hit the bottom and work them ultra slow. I went last week and slayed them on jigs. Had my limit by 10am.

I don't miss fishing there. Use to fish there 20 years ago. It was cool for what it is. It was only 10 bucks to fish back then. I'm spoiled now, I get to fish the Truckee River n eastern sierras. No more mud hole. 😂

Back in the days this place was popping, now overgrown bushes , outhouses about to spill over, spider webs, trash . They would stock in the evenings while your fishing . Closed for stocking 😮, nope , "home of the no fish" . Catfish pond was hot with plenty of fishing spots , now good luck . Three time skunk champ here 😂

Still my favorite place to fish, i love the fact i can camp out over night have a fire and drink my beers without getting hurrast. It is a hard lake to fish and my theory is that there are a lot of small minnows or tiny trout swimming around the lake and the trout are eating them there for not going after powerbaits which is very popular at sarl. Also them little ducks swimming around dive looking to eat your powerbait off the hook before a trout can find it. Check your powerbait often them ducks are slick. JMO brother tightlines I'll still fish there 🐟🎣🤙

I know the owners personally. They do everything they say they’re doing. I worked there for 5years over 20 years ago. They stock for every person to catch an average of 2.5 fish. Best advice is fish at night with power bait. Or during the week. If fishing lures find moving water. I always prefer nights. Less crowds. Glow powerbait preferably. Don’t cast too far and fish different depths. Make different size leaders. Should be a 2 rod per person limit. And can only space so far apart. These aren’t wild trout but trout raised in steel bins. So think what they would eat at the hatchery. And use smallest amount of bait possible, shaping it differently. 2lb leaders, 1/8 ounce sliding sinker. Moving water or current are the best places to setup.

I did overnight last weekend. By 6 am a huge crowed had surrounded my camping spot. Also no bites at night.

Buena vista planting Monday and opening Tuesday… heard 4500 pounds… idk about that we will see…

My opinion is for trout season not worth it, I feel like I have better luck during catfish season.

Anyone reading this- if you fish there and dont catch any, go to the fish cleaning station at the end of the session. I promise you youll see lots of people cleaning fish they caught. Just caught you didnt that day didnt mean they arent there………… its just funny how people fish once a week and can say it sucks here 😂😂😂😂😂😅

That mud hole is the toilet bowl of the Prado Basin and the water gets screwed up every time it rains there. That place can humble the best of fishermen.

Always skunked during catfish season, went a Wednesday like a month ago and almost got my limit of trout got 3 on double drop shot and one on powerbait and had to move around the lake like 8 times gon try my luck again with the wife this Valentine’s Day

I am 1 for 2 at SARL. 1 skunk out of 2 trips. During rain, the lake is not so packed.

Honest truth about SARL for ME...the math just don't math...$36 to get skunked when i could buy a 2lb trout for $16...too crowded....if you don't know the regulars you won't fish the MAYO spots and you'll most likely see that skunk....i see that skunk enough at $5 a pop... so I'll continue to keep my distance! 😂😂😂

Yeah they lost my business too. I used to fish the weekdays and usually caught a few fish. But I went the day after Thanksgiving last year and was about 20 cars from the gate when they opened. I was wondering why ppl were leaving as I got to the gate and found out after I paid that there was literally no space open. I circled both lakes 2x and couldn't find a spot and was forced to leave. SARL knew there was no place to fish when they opened the gate for the morning session and just took everybody's money. That is a scam to me and I won't patronize businesses like that. Good riddance.

On top of the high prices people wake up early to get there to ensure they will get a good spot BUT u have cars that pull up close to 6 o'clock on the left side of the line when you've been waiting there all night, and the let that left side go in first smh makes no sense to me.. they lie about the amount of fish they put in the lake.BRING YOUR OWN BAIT AND SNACKS THEIR PRICES ARE EXTREMELY SUPER HIGH. Fished Santa Ana once. Not into it. I need some scenery, I like a good natural environment. The stocking is on-off there, mostly because it too accessible and you only have a few days to catch because the bucketeers take it all. I miss Irvine Lake back in the day, when they actually used your money to consistently stock the lake.

Not worth going at all, they just want your money. Went on a Friday morning after stocking day the lake was super packed by 6:30am. Drove around the lake few times and no spots available to fish. End leaving around 10am and headed to Irvine lake and caught few of them out there.

I think the lake is just too deep. If it was more shallow then we'd be able to slay and catch our limit . Its pretty deep i rented the plantoon boat and dropped anchor and the rope dropped like 25 to 30 feet deep at least. I was surprised.

This whole video was nothing but crying and you do need to put in your time like you said people have spent a lot of money to figure out what works at what lake and then you have someone like you that just shows up expecting people to tell them what is working on that particular lake To shorten it you want other people to do all the work then you expect them to tell you without putting in anytime I'd be the same way the only time I give out information is to the people that I see on the different lake's putting in the time or I'll help out a father and kid that are struggling because I want kid's to have a good experience so they want to keep fishing in life
