There are two versions of this episode 1581 : The American version shows the change of interpreter on the occasion of two distinct scenes, while the international version (broadcast notably in Italy and in Russia) shows the transfer of power between both actors inside the same scene.

@@hirsch4real201 Lane Davies was extraordinary. Gordon Thomson’s Dynasty role of Adam Carrington is a similar character to Mason’s black sheep child.

Not sure where the “NBC” version came from but I remember the US version showing the fight start with Terry and Gordon getting up. It was shown in the US like that.

But see, the FIRST version is the way that *_I_* remember seeing it when it aired on WMAQ Channel 5, NBC Chicago, IL, with the switch being *the after the fight.* When I saw that second version on a different channel on _KZfaq_ maybe 10 or 15 years ago (named "SB switch from Terry Laster to Gordon Thompson") *_I thought I must've been drunk when I watched that episode!_*

@@themirrorsofmymind I’m wondering something Mirror. Did Chicago get Friday’s cliffhangers on Friday or Monday? There were regions in the US in the 80s and 90s were there was a tape delay. In Dallas, we would get the show one day behind other markets, and I remember Gordon Thomson standing up after getting punched. I’m curious if the normal broadcast had a glitch and it cut out Gordon’s introduction.

@@katya2032 I too was looking for that scene. I remember it clearly. One got punched, and another one got up from the floor, it was hilarious, and so "Santa Barbara" to do something outrageous mid scene like that.

@@katya2032 Damned sketchy _KZfaq_ notifications! I never got an email that someone replied to my comment. I'm certain now that it WAS a Friday episode, where the switch occurred in the midst of the fight and was announced at the end. Then on Monday, Lester was shown sitting at a restaurant, got up from the table, and left, then Gordon Thomson carried on from there.

I thought the show did an excellent job at choosing actors to play Mason Capwell... Not a bad actor in the bunch! All 3 had that Mason smirk and the vocabulary to cut anyone down to size. Makes me wonder why they didn't try to recast Eden. Carrington Garland was the perfect Kelly Capwell..

They almost did recast Eden: During tense contract negotiations, they auditioned actresses, settling on Ally Walker - signing her on in the event talks with Marcy Walker fell through. Marcy & SB worked it out, and the role of Andrea was created for Ally (and her resemblance to Eden would later become a plot point). Trivia: Ally's chemistry in screen-tests with A Martinez was quite good - actually so good, he would be cast a decade later as her love interest on Profiler.

I liked both actors in their own way. They should have given Terry more time. His acting was better than Gordon's. The writing wasn't there though.

From the way I hear it, Terry left because he was exhausted. He and his leading lady was always doing rewrites, etc.

LANE DAVIES WAS THE ONE AND THE ONLY REAL MASON. INDEED, HE DO "MAKES" A SO FANTASTIC AND SWEET CHARACTER THAT THE OTHERS ONES CAN'T BE ANY MORE MASON CAPWELL. LANE DAVIES WAS NOT ONLY AND HANDSOME MAN, BUT FEW ARE THE MEN WHO ARE SO "BEAUTIFUL" AND CAN BE SO SWEET SO TENDER AS A LITTLE BOY (THE SMILE, THE IMPRESSIONS....). IT WAS LIKE THE CHARACTER OF MASON CAPWELL HAD TO BE. AFTER, EVEN IF THEY WAS GOOD, THE OTHERS ACTORS WAS REALLY NOT THE SAME, NOT SO FANTASTIC AS LANE DAVIES USED TO BE, AS WAS MASON CAPWELL ANYMORE. AND THE SHOW WASN'T ANYMORE THE SAME AFTER DAVIES LEFT, EVEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE OTHERS MASON AND THE REST OF THE CHARACTERS OF THE SOAP , WE DO CAN SEE THAT.

Remember Lane Davis was "Substitute Ridge" on The Bold & The Beautiful back in the 1990's. He tanked. He left The Young & The Restless because he was angry at the attention that Lauralee Bell (Bill Bell's Daughter) was getting as Christine "Cricket" Blair. She really was The Tori Spelling Of Daytime without the Drama.
