Life comes at all of us differently. Some people use their situation as an excuse and others use it to fuel their fire. Jereme Knibbs grew up in Tampa, Fl and now resides in San Francisco. One of the more soft spoken and humble people we've met, Jereme takes you through the rollercoaster ride of a family navigating fast money, drugs and growing up fast. We are proud to present to you the Jereme Knibbs True Grit.

Some of the best lines from "They call me Bruce" Bruce:"Oh, you know Kung Fu? What Master you study under?" Gang member: "I studied under master Chow". Bruce: "You know what Master Chow always say, those who study under same Master can never fight!" Different gang member: " Yo I studied under master Wang." Bruce: " Excellent! Then you two can fight!"

I had to become a caretaker to my disabled, alcoholic Mother from the age of 14-22. She passed away when I was 22. Unfortunately the disease of addiction WAS passed onto me. I have been sober since 2014. It's an everyday battle for me mentally. Props to Jeremy for breaking that cycle.

Tore ligaments from the bone and cracked my right patella - back in 97/98- was done for by 99, rolled with it until 2018 -then COMPLETE 180 - I know! If I can do it,anyone can! I congratulate you G! Much more rewarding at the end a the day to be sober than stoned/drunk. Waking up fresh !! Stay STRONG BRO you got this 💯👊

Jesus, this guy has a beautiful soul. There's a lot of wisdom in this video, the kind of wisdom some people are more or less born with but the rest of us can still learn from.
@jaybot303functionerror4
@jaybot303functionerror4 3 жыл бұрын
His wisdom comes having to be an adult when your kid, he had to make sure his parents did not O.D. His mom was involved in the Sex industry at a time when it was very Sleazy, he never blamed them for the bad things in his life and put everything into skateboarding it’s really rare. You see the same things from kids who live with & survive awful diseases, you don’t have much option either take it out on the ones you love ( which just leads to more pain) , try to put it into a box in your mind, then deal with it when your older or channel it into something positive or negative. He could of chose the easier negative route, but chose skateboarding, glad he did as it’s helping his family not just himself.

Love the ending how he says I hope people don’t think this is a beg for sympathy, rather a source of inspiration. As someone who started skating in the 209 in the 90s I can honestly say that this story is so similar to many I know who skated including myself. At that time it seemed like skateboarding was a route to take for people who had ongoing trauma. Everyone I skated with was going through some heavy shit. Many didn't make it. Trauma is no joke. I hope if you have a similar story you seek help for the trauma. Don't ignore the PTSD. Don't ignore the anxiety and depression. Talk to a professional if you can. Shit gets better if you let it.

@Guy Incognito Not always. Sometimes they can be I guess, but more than likely they are vastly more qualified than someone who is not an expert. People who have no skill or training in something, but think they know something that thousands and thousand of experts in the field haven't figured out yet are usually, if not always suffering from the dunning-kruger effect. Trust an expert before people like that.

Damn coming from skating in the late 80's, 90's and I quit skating in the 00's got too old and body not handling falls so good anymore. Skating was a part of my life for long and he had parents supporting his skating even if they had their mistakes they still supported him. My parents hated skateboarding. I had to work my ass off as a kid to buy my decks, bearings, trucks, rails(old school decks had rails to slide on) and wheels. I never had the best stuff sometimes hand me downs as friend upgraded their decks I got worn stuff. But it taught me valuable life lessons look after your shit. Stuff costs money and if you work for your stuff you appreciate so much more. I never had the new powel Peralta bucky deck or Tony hawk deck. But yet I still skated harder than all my friend with their pricey decks. Then I studied and got a job and I bought my 1st new school Santa Cruz deck with the good shit indie trucks and all the bells and whistles but I was past my prime. Still did not stop me from enjoying skating. Thank you for the video brought up so many good memories I have of skating.

The fact that knibbs went through all that and still made it on top is a testament to who he is as a man and what he’s become as a professional skater. Keep reppin the city and keep pushin!

His smile right after that last phone call spoke volumes. Truly an inspiring story. I knew since way back any time I skated SPoT just seeing him rip there, he had something special. Well done, Knibbs. You deserve it all 🤙❤

Thank you so much for this, I grew up in a similar environment. Constantly moving, both parents addicted to heavy drugs, being a kid and that being the only thing you know...but skateboarding is the thing that brought me out of that being my reality, it kept me from going down that same path. This is so relatable and makes me very relieved to see someone in skateboarding openly discussing this harsh reality for so many. Thank you Santa Cruz, thank you Jereme ❤️

Yo on the real this story just hit home with me. And what his dad says at the end is what has inspired me the most. "It's never too late to change your life." It was just what I needed to hear. Thanks for that. Peace!!

His dad is like a little brother not a father. His mom is awesome. He’s proof you can do whatever you want too no matter your up bringing and situation. It’s a choice and skateboarding community has done more for young men and woman as far as giving them a safe place to skate . There’s just something special about skateboarding and those who will continue to skate until they can’t .

My generation taught their children by example..... An example of what you don't want to end up like. You see, we make all the wrong decisions in life, time and time again, and suffer severe consequences for making those decisions, time and time again, so you don't have to. It's a thankless job but we do it because we love you.
