Franz Lehar is my great great grandfather. It's always really cool to see the love that his music has gotten, cool that I'm a descendant of somebody who accomplished that.

When I was very young in Poland we had an old record player with the radio and one record, Gold and Silver waltz. When nobody was around, i played the record multiple times waltzing around the table, this waltz made me fall in love with music of Lehar, Strauss family and many other waltz composers

What beautiful joyous music Frank Lehar lived in very trying conditions as he had a Jewish wife and mainly Jewish collaborators in the music world whom he tried desperately to keep away from the gestapo Maybe happy joyous music was his outlet for hope and zest for life

I don't want to sound pretentious but I come to the sad conclusion that it sounds as if nowadays one needs to have a certain mood or "spiritual or artistic elevation" to appreciate this wonderful music, what wasn't supposed at all when it was composed, it was just intendent to be a joyful kind of music with melodies that were to be easily kept in our ears.

Someone (Mario Franco) remarked 'what a lame audience'. I took some German friends to The Last Night of the Proms at the Cape Town City Hall last year and they couldn't believe the audience participation. Detlev remarked, nothing like that at home. All very serious. They loved the atmosphere of the Proms.
