Santorini Volcano Tour - Hiking to the Crater of an Active Volcano (Nea Kameni)

Santorini is an archipelago made up of 5 islands and in this vlog, we took a day trip out to visit 3 of them via a wooden sail boat. We hiked up an active volcano called Nea Kameni, visited Palea Kameni's hotspring and finished up with lunch at Thirasia before heading back to Thira (the main island of Santorini).
Definitely a unique and must-do activity when visiting Santorini.

Santorini is so lovely, and I love the look of the hiking. The food looked amazing. 👌 Legend has it that ancient Santorini eruption was an inspiration for Atlantis myths...

Yes! They even had a Santorini Atlantis museum 😊 but our tour guide didn't wanna say his thoughts on the whole Atlantis myth when someone in our group asked about it 😆 but how fascinating would it be if true right? 😃

@PeterandYen oh,that's exciting. There is usually a seed of truth in myth. After all, the Trojan War of The Iliad was viewed as a myth until German, Heinrich Schliemann, discovered Troy, Mycenae, and Tiryns.

True! You're so well versed with your history Daryl 😃👍 when we were in Turkey and went over to visit Gallipoli we were actually pretty close to Troy. We were short on time there plus there's not much in that area so we gave it a pass but imagine whenever archaeologists make a discovery like that! Must be so incredible 😃

Lovely video! Looks like you made the best choice in boats, a lot quieter and relaxing. Would be fun to jump off the boat and swim over to the warm water! Nice day of exploring

I’ve probably asked in the past, but have you tried Oofos? I do so much walking in slippas that I was on a mission to find the most comfy ones… for the last 5-6 years or so I’ve settled on Oofos… I do about 15km a day in them and my feet are happy with the squish. Not sure if they are grippy enough for hikes on rugged terrain, but on long walks they do well… glad Yen survived another head to head battle with 🌊 🤢… Man, that’s why I don’t know if I could do I tour… if people are inconsiderate by not coming back on time making the group wait and cutting into explore time… aye yaaaaa 😖😖😖… hopefully there was a good reason than just “who cares about the group waiting” mentality… thanks for another cool vid! Next time, we wanna see some swimming across to the warm water side.. you guy can do it!!😁😁

Oofos! Those look great. I need to replace my jandals every year. Think this year I'll try these. They're pretty expensive here in nz though $110 nzd for jandals 😂. But might be worth it for that comfort and 37% shock reduction. No good reason for the delay just lost track of time 😅 If we catch up might need swimming lessons from you dude 😂

Peter's hiking footwear needs to be more widely accepted 😇, that will be a challenge as legal counsels runs a lot of these signboards 😂 If Peter did not mention the tops where houses, I would have thot they might have been snow What Yen had so lunch looks like super comfy food, anti motion sickness whilst eating Thanks again for a great get away Sunday morning vlog and have a great week both

😂😂🩴 I feel like both Italy and Greece where we've seen such signs just don't want to deal with any liabilities if people injure themselves lol.. they'll have a sign to refer to! Right? Totally looks like snow! We felt like it looked like Queenstown 😆 Thanks LH, wishing you a great week ahead too. Like the first one - well done! We have booked a semi-private sailboat (the kind that is on a lean so I think Yen would not be happy on one) sunset cruise. We will get dinner on board and because there are just 4 couples it will be a much more expensive cruise, but when you are 76 there are times one needs to splurge.

It looks like you'd a great day exploring! It's very similar to the volcanic areas of NZ, and the folks swimming in the warm sea gave me White Island vibes. I'm so glad you weren't too bothered by motion sickness for the boat trips though Yen, I know that's never been nice. Delicious looking food again too - I've never heard of tomato balls, but I think I'd really enjoy them too 😊

Thanks Rob! Yea I reckon I've gotten better at managing it over the years and found what works ok for me 😄🤞 those tomato balls were great.. I feel like that's something we don't get great ones of in NZ.. tomatoes! Coz I've liked them so much more overseas than here 😅 and right?? Felt so much like NZ!

As always, you guys are very informative in your blog 😁. I haven't seen an active volcano before, but Rotorua sure is a gem, and the unique smell 😂. This place reminded me of some parts in NZ, like the dried grass hills and mountains with sea. We must visit NZ again, in couple years time 🤞

We stayed in Santorini for quite a long time so we were able to do all the activities. But if you're there a short while you might want to prioritize the things that look most exciting to you 😁
