What a soul singing .Great singer Abida ji

When an artist sings from the heart then the critics do not matter. They are not a concern when the whole purpose is to get a high. I sing everyday to do just that. I am no where near Fateh or Abida but I do what I do to get my buzz. And when that high is recognized by others, then we all consider that as fame. For those who do this for the fame never are really remembered. The ones who this for the sake of simply uplifting themselves are engraved in history forever.

How about a few words for this celestial piece of poetry and it’s creator the Sufi philosopher Siraiki poet Khwaja Ghulam Farid ( Kot Mithan ).

this Sufi rendition I have listened many times over on you tube from seasoned stalwrts like abida Parveen ji, shafkat Ali Khan SB , salamat Ali Khan SB and also from youngsters singing on the saregama show , and each time I have loved it to the hilt and can listen to it continuously the whole day , such is the beauty of this rendition . it's not only the lyrics but even the raga that ut has been set on -. both are godly. maybe it's the pure spirit of this poem and it's meaning that lends it the beauty once sung by different artistes old and new alike. it's a Divi e experience to listen to this song

Many people asked for lyrics but it is difficult to translate it word by word as it will lose its beauty. All poems by mystic poets try to tell a love story or any story for that matter. In fact, all they try to do is to leave it to ur imagination to relate it to God or other spiritual interpretations. With the same token, this ghazal tells a story about Sasi and Punnu. You can read that story on Wikipedia. I will explain how I interpret its spiritually. Sasi is asking his beloved (Punnu or Punhal) who has parted with her to come back. She gives an account of all the turmoil and efforts she is putting to bring him back. She imagined all the luxuries she would have gotten if she were to marry Punnu but when she wakes up he is gone. Now she is crying and running around in a dessert, pleading for his return. You can take it as an emotional love story and appreciate it as it is or u can go a little deeper and think of the relationship between God and humans. We were in a relationship when we were in heaven and then He sent us to this world. In this world we are similar to Sasi in a sense that instead of taking care of Him in the first place and finding our way back to Him by good deeds, we all sleep and imagine all the luxuries, an endless list of materialistic wishes, that we will get in this world (similar to how Sasi slept and her brothers took Punnu away while she was in deep sleep). Like a girl who is going to marry, we all have materialistic imaginations, like Sasi. However, when we realize the real purpose of life and start to look for God we already have come a long way from home. -I just tried to give my point of view, hope it will help. during her formative years she was influenced by Ustaad Salamat Ali Khan. Tatti roo roo main vaat nehaaran almost always makes me cry and it is natural for some of us to be impacted by a lady singing this kafi as Sassi is a female character yearning for punoo who was clearly oblivious of her predicament, her trails and tribulations till it was really too late
