This thing looks insane! Some things I noticed: Even with the 3-Element lens the beam still gets rectangular pretty quick :/ It's labeled as a 500mw laser but it looks like it could output over 1W without a lens? lol

sanwu makes some of the best lasers out there, have a few myself and I cant say enough good things about them. You should try the guardian next , its shorter but fatter than the pocket but with more powerful diods :) clearly a favourite of mine and I have the pocket aswell

Hey man, I’ve been looking at these Sanwu lasers and I wanted to see which you think I should get for a green laser? I’ve been looking at this pocket one mainly because it was cheaper. Are there any drawbacks to it compared to the others, other than the shorter duty cycle? Thanks.

The main cons are shorter duty cycle and smaller batteries with less capacity. They are very tiny, but so are the Sanwu Guardians, with much improved duty cycles and battery capacities

Even a perfectly collimating beam will diverge and lose power over distance because the light is absorbed and refracted through air molecules.

A 500mw laser registers 700mw? I recently bought the 800mw version. If they are using a 1 watt diode for the 500mw, maybe the 800mw is a 1.6w diode

I got a 5mW blue/purple beam, focusable, came with the 2 battery, 2 18650 lithium ion batteries, and the beam divergence is pretty bad. It was only $21.94 total, from Etsy. It can burn, on a rather low level.

Blue laser diodes generate rectangular beam profiles, it’s a byproduct of the manufacturing process. A collimating lens can correct the beam profile somewhat by constraining the width of the beam and making it proportional to the beam’s height, resulting in a square beam profile.

They have a 150mW 450nm blue version with a single mode diode (much better divergence), it's one of the few options that doesn't increase the base price

I have been looking and pricing on Sanwu and the blue lasers are the most pricey and videos show the burning that it can do. The more I look into this, the more I realize that lasers are seriously dangerous and as cool as they are, they aren't for joking around to show your friends. Besides the obvious, there is little to no real world use for an overly powerful laser and it immediately points out where you are standing, the blue ones aren't as bright as the green and don't really burn stuff like you'd think a $500-800 item would. I'd like a powerful light to point at stuff but don't really want to hurt stuff or pay fines for accidental damage. So is red or green in a lower power what I am looking for or do I just buy a high power led flashlight (that has real world uses) I think I answered my own question.

I really enjoy all your laser review videos, however I would appreciate it if you did something different and showed us more interesting laser experiments and uses. Almost all laser videos on KZfaq are clips of people _Popping Balloons, Lighting Matches, Burning a CD case, Etching into a dark surface and Cutting Electrical tape!_ *BORING!* Same old-Same Old. How about some useful interesting uses for a laser that no-one ever shows. I remember seeing a video of people who used a green 5mW to write on tall buildings at night using a projector which drew patterns and writing. Or some fluorescent chemical experiments needing a laser. ANYTHING other than the basics would be appreciated and most welcomed. I'm sure it would get lots of hits.

@@Shonade_Malik just be careful who you order from. Some companies have good marketing but sell under spec stuff, used parts etc. check out laserpointerforums for anything Laser related. My next laser will be a Sanwu or Jetlaser. Don’t skimp on the safety goggles. That’s more important than the cost of the laser. I have a video of my 445nm Star Trek phaser on my channel if your interested in seeing it. It’s a custom build.
