A few reasons why you Sapote, Sapodilla, Chikoo, Chico (Manilkara zapota) is not fruiting. This video was filmed summer 2019. As predicted, we had zero fruits develop from all those flowers seen in the video. Patreon: patreon.com/QCTropicals (Exclusive perks!)

I'm from Houston and I planted a couple of seeds in 2016, it is now 2022 and only 1 tree made it to maturity. Earlier this year the leader branch was getting too high, so I decide to air layer it and get two plants from a single tree. It was a success and I cut it down and it was placed in a different pot. Not knowing there were 2 flowers on the newly air layered tree. It is now November 2022 and one of those flower is now a small fruit the size of a grape. I am hoping next year, the mother plant will have plenty of blooms...at least now I know the tree is mature.

I'm in Mesa 9b, Phoenix area. I've had trouble getting fruit set. My 12 foot tree has several varieties grafted on. The first and only fruit an Alano is currently on the tree. Lots of bloosoms, no problem with heat or cold, trying different things to get fruit but nothing seems to help. Keeping well watered during set time and extra P and K is on the list. Lowering pH is going on as well as foliar blooming help. Going to try blossom set again. Some blossoming is during various times besides early June main timing. No insects seem to care but honey, sugar, soda pop is supposed to attract pollinators. Rolling the blossoms with fingers hasn't seemed to help. I've heard a very large 30ft tree in town fruits heavily but no confirmation. I might try ripping up some blossoms and brushing some pollen on. Early morning should help.

Odd, Florida has hot sunny weather and rain at flower time but they grow fine there!

South Florida also has 100% humidity and hardly ever drops below 40f during winter. Ofcourse they would grow fine there :)

Arizona is desert, our air is very dry, humidity is super low, many times as low at 7%-10% with our average around 30%. Not so with Florida; in Florida the air is wet, humidity on average = 74%. In Tucson and Phoenix if we do happen to get that high of 74% humidity it's because it's getting ready to RAIN. And our rain days are few! Comparable example: Florida is like a steam room, whereas Arizona is like a dry sauna. Our air is never thick and wet, it's super dry and I rarely sweat here even when it's 110F, but in Florida it's thick muggy wet air and I sweat even when it's only 100F.

Thanks for this video. I was planning to buy a Chico Sapodilla but not after watching this. (I'm in Tucson). We are on average 6 degrees cooler than Phoenix but our lack of humidity is the same: many days we have only 10%-14%. This tree grows well in FLORIDA because it requires a tropical humid climate to fruit well; it likes moisture in the air with the heat, but doesn't like heat without moisture. In Phoenix and Tucson we don't have that moisture. I've hosed off my sidewalk and within a minute or two it's bone dry. As you said, if you put in a greenhouse environment maybe, but too much work for me. Too bad, because it sounds like a great tasting fruit, but living in the desert we learn to stick with what grows without too much effort. My Glenn Mango grows well here and it fruits, but have to take it in during that 1-1 weeks of 25F-28F of winter.

Are most of the trees in this video grown in pots. Looking so lush I was thinking they were mostly in the ground until you showed some low shots picking up a fallen fruit.

Do sapodilla have male plant which flower but not bear fruit

Just wondering, we live in SW Florida. The Sapodilla fruits fine. It may be because you have fry heat. We have heat with high humidity. What if you put it under more shade and use a mister to create moisture and humidity?

You're in FL friend. That's like me saying my local weeds grow fine in my area :). But yes, it's the lack of constant humidity, irregular temperatures and cold winters.

full 120f direct sun all day without any shade will destroy your flowers. Full sun at 100f with 100% humidity no problem :).

Wrong... mine white sapote tree grew from seed and within 3 years it produces over 100 fruits... yes, i counted lol.

Double wrong homie. Botanical name for white sapote is "Casimiroa edulis". Sapodilla, actual sapote is "Manilkara zapota". They're not even in the same family. Only relation to the fruit in this video is just the name. White sapote "mexican apple" is way easier to grow and bears tons of fruits.
