Well yes it can be a tactical gun, we can see many application for defense as well as law enforcement/Military use. Though it is still a nice smooth shooting firearm that is just comfortable to shoot for fun at the range and now they a have a longer barrel model designed for specifically for competition, but I would gladly run the SAR 9X in any competition. As for the 2nd part of your statement you are definitely right in the fact that if you put a loaded magazine in the firearm while the slide is locked back that the slide catch will not be caught by the magazine lip allowing the slide to go all the way forward if you pull the magazine back with a loaded magazine in the well. This is indeed the reason why you will see people like Instructor Reeder here having to either pull the slide back with no magazine to release the slide or pushing down on the slide lock with an empty magazine to let the slide forward (yes pushing on the slide catch will release the slide without a magazine). As for Automatic it is kind of were the term semi-automatic comes in. The mechanics of the gun will send the slide back after each shot causing a series of actions to take place ejecting the old shell and allowing the slide to go forward loading the next round. Once out of ammo, the lip on you magazine will push the slide lock up catching the slide locking it to the rear. All of this requires multiple pulls of the trigger. To be a true automatic and not semi-automatic then you could pull the trigger once and hold it, allowing the gun to keep firing with a single pull instead of having to start the mechanical cycle over with each trigger pull.

Hey thanks for asking and giving us a chance to answer, it is not a bad question to ask, but not common. Second strike capability is typically only available on a true double action pistol. For those not familiar, second strike is a concept that if you pull the trigger and the firing pin hits a primer and the primer does not go off (due to hard primer, bad primers, etc.) then as the user continues to pull the trigger the hammer would still pull back and come forward striking the primer a second time often setting it off. In striker fired pistols with the no hammer they are referred to as double action pistols. Reality is closer to an action in half. Most striker fire pistols rely on the recoil from the fired round to help cycle the slide back and set up the next shot. There is no mechanical hammer being pulled back by the trigger. Most modern internal safety's would prevent this with a standard striker fire pistol. (We will share the x-ray video of the striker fire pistol for visual later). I know there are some striker fire pistols that do not maintain all of the internal safety's and those pistols were designed for the firing pin to be pulled back and released solely by the trigger pull, in theory that would allow the gun to operate as second strike pistol. As far as we are aware the SAR9 and SAR 9X are not physically capable of second strike. You need the cycle of the slide to prime the firing pin to be released onto the primer. The solution we have always trained for a shot that did not fire with the striker fire pistols, whether Glock, Sig, Smith and Wesson or SAR9 is the tap-rack-roll. If you pull the trigger and there is a failure to fire then tap the mag to ensure mag is seated all the way followed by a rack and roll to clear any jam or to get the slide to slam all the way back forward. Some folks complain that is too much for civilian market, but clearing failure to fire shots is just as important as the standard safety rules. I know we took a long worded way to say no, but this is an uncommon question and I know there are probably people scratching their heads on what you asked. Have a great blessed day and I suggest try out the SAR9 or SAR9X, both are amazing pistols that I would run against any of my HKs or combat pistols without hesitation.
