Excellent advice from Ryan Hall! I’ve been struggling with my threshold lately and I do think it’s because I’ve been overly focused on splits/pace. More effort focus is needed and approaching the result scientifically instead of emotionally is key.

Yes except the Galen Rupp part. He's a has-been. Great runner, most assuredly, but he was more than a bit caught up in Alberto's "tests" Combined with his Achelies Heel reconstructive surgery, Rupp just doesn't have any brighter days ahead. His performance in Tokyo seems to back that up. I think 2016 was Galen Rupp's last "good" year. 🤔

@@marklegault6662 And they will, the female world record is 2.14. Men have been running marathons a lot longer than women. Women were banned from running marathons until 1967 and even then Kathrine Switzer had to run the marathon illegally and was almost pulled off the course by the male organiser. Her boyfriend stopped him from pulling her off. Give women a bit of time and they will be breaking 2.10 no problem, even though they dont have the testosterone naturally produced in their bodies that men have which gives men the natural advantage.

Even in cooler temperatures I doubt she could’ve gone under 30:30. If you’re asking how fast she could’ve run in a steady paced race and perfect weather, her 2:20 marathon is the performance equivalent of about 30 flat for 10,000 meters. I’ll add 30 seconds since the track races are not her forte compared to the marathon.
