Lyrics:
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you asked for it, 'cause you need one
You see, I'm not gonna write you a love song
'Cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leavin', I'ma need a better reason
To write you a love song today
(Yeah) Today, yeah

I'd be honored if some Sara Bareilles fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of LOVE SONG in tribute to one of the greatest albums of the '00s decade as well as to the release of Sara's 5th full-length album, Amidst the Chaos. Live acoustic on my YT channel with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.

+louis smeets the best part, if you actually try to find meaning in this song, she doesn't say fuck you, she basically says, "hey i'm just not in the mood to make a love song and i just don't wanna make a song that i don't put my hearth n and i sure as hell aint' gonna do it just to please you, so please just trust in me and let me make the songs i feel like doing and when i'm ready i'll write you ONE HELL OF A LOVE SONG,"

The 2000s truly were different. They were not just the turn of the century, not just the birth of the internet, not just the birth of many of us reminiscing about our childhoods, and not just a golden age of songs, they were magical. All of these reasons made it that way, among a ton of other reasons. It was truly something

Apparently the actual inspiration was frustration that the record company she worked for was rejecting her songs. She was trying different styles, and was no longer happy with the songs because she had changed her style so much for approval. In the end, she allegedly wrote Love Song to say she didn't want to have to change for people to like her, and the company approved.

February 2024: Standing in line at the UPS Store and “Love Song” comes on over the in-store speakers…💜 I started moving a little to the music and singing along under my breath. I hated that I had to leave the store before the song came to an end and so I decided to listen and watch the video on KZfaq. Awesome song and the reason behind its existence is brilliant! Thank you Sara for such a great song! Love it 💜

I genuinely adore how this song calls out the commodification of art and music, and the constant desire for content thats exactly what people “want to hear” suffocating the creative freedom of artists. Corporations don’t care about giving a message that’s meaningful or creating something that matters, they care about maintaining a status quo that maximizes their profits- and this song does a great job at portraying that through the context, lyrics and visuals. Genuinely fantastic work

As far as I have heard, Sara Bareilles was forced to make a love song because if she didn't, then her career is over. So...here it is...She expresses her feelings on this song, and guess what? The producers loved it! You know, every artist singer must have at least a love song...I hope I'm not mistaken about this

I met him when I was 17 years old. He was 16 but was so mature for his age. We lived together for 4 years until we separated. Few years later we reconnected but was too late, he had a family and I was already in another relationship. Last phone call from him was him saying how sorry he was and if he had met me at a later time in his life he would have known better and treated me right. We ended our very last phone call with him saying I will always love you no matter where we go in life. Yesterday his soul went to rest. This song reminds me of my 17 year old self living with my then 16 year old bf at his parents house. I can remember the room we shared and the order of the house with this song playing on the tv. 😔 It's funny how the mind works even after 10 years later the memory is clear. One of the most precious memories I will always hold close to my heart. This song will always remind me of him. RIP my friend. Thank you for what we had, I'll never forget you ❤️

When some musical producer orders to a songwriter to write a love song, the result is this.. Not a love song but a huge hit

Yeah, basically this song is her just telling them to fuck themselves.

There's actually a reason for why this song came to be and it's not because people were pushing for a love song. The music producers encouraged her to keep on writing when she was having difficulties with coming up with something.

Maturing mean realizing this song is about the music industry and how she literally did the opposite of what was asked from her and still slayed and made a instant classic hit. Lesson to be learn, you don’t have to change to make it. ❤

Head under water And they tell me to breathe easy for a while The breathing gets harder, even I know that Made room for me It's too soon to see If I'm happy in your hands I'm unusually hard to hold on to Blank stares at blank pages No easy way to say this You mean well, but you make this hard on me I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you asked for it 'Cause you need one, you see I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you tell me it's make or break in this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If all you have is leaving I'mma need a better reason To write you a love song today, today I learned the hard way That they all say things you wanna hear And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and your twisted words, Your help just hurts You are not what I thought you were Hello to high and dry Convinced me to please you Made me think that I need this too I'm trying to let you hear me as I am I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you asked for it 'Cause you need one, you see I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you tell me it's make or break in this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If all you have is leaving I'mma need a better reason To write you a love song today Promise me, you'll leave the light on To help me see with daylight my guide gone 'Cause I believe there's a way you can love me Because I say I won't write you a love song 'Cause you asked for it 'Cause you need one, you see I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you tell me it's make or break in this Is that why you wanted a love song? 'Cause you asked for it 'Cause you need one, you see I'm not gonna write you a love song 'Cause you tell me it's make or break in this If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay If your heart is nowhere in it I don't want it for a minute Babe, I'll walk the seven seas When I believe that there's a reason To write you a love song today, today
