I definitely agree that people saying they love A Little Life, but won't recommend it feels conflicting and makes people curious to pick it up. I think your review on the book was so insightful and such a good explanation of your thoughts. I have yet to see such a detailed review that explains why its such a difficult read, but also something not to be recommended so THANK YOU!!

Exploring sad books might feel intimidating at first, but the emotional depth they provide is incredibly rewarding.Through their touching stories, we connect with the human experience on a deeper level, finding comfort in knowing that we're not alone in facing challenges. Don't hesitate to delve into the realm of sadness in literature-often, it's where we uncover profound insights and truths about life.

The headspace you're talking about when you read a little life is a real thing. I've watched you reading it, and even though I read it more than 6 months ago, every time you cried, I realized where you are in the book and it brought me back to the exact room / place I've been in when I read it, and I started crying because I knew what you read and what you've felt. I think that because this book is alot, in every aspect of it, I tried not to dwell on the feelings when I read it and not put much thought about how I really felt about it, and your video and review made me realize what this book actually meant to me. Thank you for that. That's why I count on your recommendations blindly for over a year now. You always hit the target. Sending love ❤

I read A Little Life a Year ago and I lived most of what Jude did, I read it to know that I was not alone, and yes this happens in real life, When I finished this book I was a mess and had such book hangover and I needed a long time to recover and heal, I did talk to my therapist before reading this and while reading this. It helped me be open more in therapy to talk about my own trauma. Sending hugs to everyone who has lived this and who was not okay after reading A Little Life.

Watching you read A Little Life and having those break down moments is literally making me cry, because I know....I KNOW. This book broke me, but it's one of the most impactful things I have ever read. It feels so wrong to say that they are real characters, because it hurts so much to realize that people do go through what they go through. This is one of those books that I hate to recommend, but I also think is important to read. You are right when you say that the person you are when you started the book is not the person you will be after. This is one of the MOST beautiful stories of love and friendship I have ever read.

I dream of having a deep love in my life like the one between Willem and Jude. I know their relationship was really hard and difficult but they loved each other with a love that makes me think that it's not even possible in real life...😢 And also, your comment is important because yes, there are people who live through what Jude experienced throughout the book and people who hate him for "not getting better" or for "not being grateful enough for his current life " plainly lack empathy. I blocked a guy forever just cause he made fun of Jude and I'm not exaggerating 😂 I was like he doesn't have empathy and sympathy so he's not the type of person I want in my life!!! Harsh? I don't believe so. I will defend the characters in this book until I die

Girl not me crying the whole time with you through A Little Life. It deeply moved me and changed me as a person (I even have a tattoo in its honor). But you put my exact thoughts and feelings into words and it was refreshing to see someone say what I felt out loud, especially about how even though it’s technically fiction, it’s moving because of how there are real stories out there just like Judes. It’s a favorite book of mine but I don’t tell people to read it. I genuinely think this book is one that will find people at the right time in their lives if they’re meant to read it and shouldn’t be pushed on someone.

the last 2 chapters of a little life made me cry so hard that I went into a panic attack and literally had to scream “it’s fictional” to myself to calm down. and that’s the thing, it’s so damn hard to remember that because some if not all of it are reality for some people. overall it’s a fucking fantastic book but deeply traumatizing.

nearly all of the books i read as an english major in college were painful to read because the soul-crushing, if not outright disturbing, reality of the topics they talk about has weighed heavily on me, even now years later. i totally understand the feeling of being present while reading a book then being haunted by it after the reading stops. even though, i don’t recommend a lot of those books, i think they are important personally and that those experiences really did change me and teach me things even if they were hard things to learn. loved the video and hearing your thoughts!! 🩷🩷

It's was so heartbreaking, disturbing, and difficult to read at times. Honestly changed my life in so many ways the way I connected and cared for Jude was like no other book character I ever read. Parts of it felt so real and raw like I was actually reading about someone's life in a biography or something and other times it felt so distant and far away that it was baffling to even think something like that could happen to someone, fiction or not.

A Little Life is one of my favourite books, but indeed, I'd never recommend it to anyone. I think it changes one so utterly completely, that it's up to a reader to find it at a time when they need it. Despite how sad it is and how much it had me crying, it also made me a tiny bit more grateful and aware of the world I live in, and the kind of person I am and I want to be. It will live with me forever (I even have a tattoo of it), and I go back and reread it at every 'crucial' point of my life. I'm glad you 'enjoyed' it (maybe not the word for it)!

I cried so hard at the end of A Little Life. I sobbed. I howled. You cried prettily somehow, the way it made me cry was almost like a semi-anxiety attack, I was screaming and shaking and plainly ugly crying with mucus and all that. It broke me in ways I never thought literature could break me 😢😢😢 and watching your video I knew exactly where you were. Absolutely beautiful book but not for the faint of heart. The trigger warnings need to be acknowledged and taken into consideration. Also, I think that in regards to the timelines, it happens between the 80s/90s up until the 2020s. I know they had cell phones and they send messages, they had laptops and sent emails so it has to be somewhere around those years. At least that's what I gathered with the details the author sprinkled here and there. Thank you for sharing with us ❤❤❤

There is a play that was made out of A Little Life. I went and watched it in London last year and though it put me through all the heartbreak all over again (especially because the characters were real humans this time around) it made me appreciate the story so much more. I loved the book already but I mostly remembered the sad and traumatizing parts. However the play made me realize how much love is in the story as well and how deep this love for one another can go. Absolutely mesmerizing

it's been a year since i read a little life and it still follows me everywhere haha. i was telling my friend about it and she said it was on her radar and she was curious so i did the monsterous thing of spoiling it for her because i know her mental health would've taken a big hit from it. i think it's a beautiful book (i do hate that the synopsis says it's about 4 boys when it's really just jude and maybe willem but the other two still follow), but it's so emotionally devestating!

Read this book last year and it broke me in ways I won’t be able to ever explain or ever put into words. I still think about the characters specifically Jude and Willem and all the “what ifs” that could’ve happened.

I haven’t watched the video yet, but I must say A Little Life is my all time favorite book. I read the book three years ago and I constantly think of the characters. Like a week doesn’t go by that this book doesn’t squeeze my heart. But besides the impact this book had, I recommend it to no one. Because idk who could handle it but at the same time I love when I find someone that has read it because it’s the most interesting book to connect over! Ok, back to the video. Hopefully you are ok at the end of it ❤️
