Sarafina Musical marks 30 years with New York screening

Жыл бұрынThe 1992 musical film drama Sarafina - The Sound of Freedom - marked its 30th anniversary with a screening in New York last night that saw the likes of stars Leleti Khumalo and Whoopi Goldberg join the celebration. Based on Mbongeni Ngema's 1987 musical by the same name, the film centres around student frustration with the Apartheid school curriculum in the mid-1970s in Soweto and the rising tide in opposition to the implementation of Afrikaans as a language of instruction. The screening in Manhattan formed part of a collaboration between Videovision, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and the South African Consulate General ahead of Heritage Day.

Wonder of today's Youth & their struggles as a Nations was once United against common challenges given advanced communications/networks I wonder if it can be replicated on a larger scale . . .

I still watch this movie today. Great movie of our common struggle. Unfortunately this is still happening in Palestine today, far worse that in South Africa, supported by the powers that be.
