Duchess of York and friend of the show, Sarah Ferguson, has announced she has been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma. This is her second skin cancer diagnosis in a year, and comes only months after recovering from breast cancer. Our panel will be sending our love and best wishes to the Duchess, and discussing their own skin cancer scares and changing attitudes to sun protection. Both Ruth and Olivia go for regular skin check ups, and Olivia doesn’t think Brits are clued up about how their attitudes towards tanning may be harming their health. Whereas Linda still remembers the smell you used to get after coming off the sunbeds!

I am blue eyed, natural platinum blonde (age 73). Sunscreen, hats, protective clothing and shade from the sun are regular parts of my life. Even with that I had a basal cell cancer taken off my face and am regularly followed by a medical dermatologist. Both my aunts had cancerous skin lesions removed. My dad worked in and outside for the telephone company for 36 years. By the end of his life he'd had precancerous lesions taken off his hands three different times. I hope maybe someone may be helped from having read my comment. I hope Sarah gets all the support she needs. What a blessing in disguise that she eventually followed her sister's (?) persistent advice to get a mammogram. "Not knowing is not doing," as the saying goes."

As someone whose not scared of dying because it’s going to happen one day and having gone through chemo has a child, I don’t go for screenings or cancer tests. If I’ve got it I don’t want to know. It can take me because I can’t go through chemo again. I hate being told to constantly check my body.
