I love this woman. As an ex-Jehovah's Witness I sympathize with a lot of what she describes. This idea that women are not sentient beings capable of determining their own path in life, instead they are required to act a certain way, dress a certain way, they can't have the same roles as men. The general misogyny in these two religions is very obvious. Like Islam, you simply can't leave the Jehovah's Witness religion without consequences. Their policy of "shunning" means many people lose their families when they leave. So the parallels are there. Now the difference is that you don't have to fear for your life if you leave or speak out against the Jehovah's Witnesses like so many ex-Muslims do in so many parts of the world. It takes an enormous amount of courage to do what Miss Haider and the ex-Muslim community that supports her is doing.

I left Christianity when I realized that I could not approve of many of the things that were stated in the Bible (in both the old and new testament). Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism don't like me either. "Organized religion" for me is oppression. One thing is the "spiritual plane" that helps men and women every day and that has granted us an exquisite cultural and artistic legacy, in addition to numerous charitable social aid from various groups. Another thing is the "political plane" that encourages dogmatism from a state perspective and uses it as a political tool to control the people, or when children are taught as an unquestionable doctrine that makes them abhor those who do not think alike.. This is not to say that religions are not important and / or interesting from an academic point of view. Knowledge of all of them is necessary to understand the evolution of humanity through the centuries. Thanks Sarah for your testimony.

I am an ex-Muslim living in the middle east. I left Islam 2 weeks ago and honestly i feel much better than i felt as a Muslim. Unfortunately, i can't speak it out in public because Islam is integrated into our society so if you criticize Islam or the Quran you may be killed by some maniacs that feel it's their duty to kill apostates. I feel encouraged by these ex-Muslims like sarah and i owe them huge respect for their courage on speaking out.

I share many of your views, and I agree with the part regarding separating Muslims from Islam when it comes to criticism. However, it is quite hard to make that distinction when people you know threaten to stab you if they ever see you because you renounced their religion. I think that living in an Arab country will, in fact, make me side with ulra-right views, even tho I know exactly what some of them are aiming for. It's hard to explain to someone who has the privilege of living in a truly free country.

I was born in a Muslim family. At childhood,I didn't even think that their can be atheism exist. When i first saw in internet that many people don't believe in religions,I was about to cry and my condition became seriously bad. But now,I believe in atheism. When i started thinking freely,then i found Islam is absolutely false. All the parts of Islam became false in my mind which were being believed by me for a long time. But,I can't express the truth to my family members because they'll kick out me from home. I have to pray every time with them and it is very much disgusting for me. But when I'll be an adult,I'll left Islam by law and so that people will recognise me as an atheist. Neither,my life will be meaningless and my future children will hate me for not leaving Islam. Now I understand that,Mohammed was not a mad,he was a clever liar. Arab was a land of illiterate then. Mohammed firstly realised that religion s are fake and he was finding a way to become famous and be remembered. At the age of 40,he successfully made a religion be following ancient religions. Then he cleverly spreading this by his friends and people like him. He made all the rules of Islam(like-a holy book,praying physically and mentally,the theory of life after death!etc) by following ancient religions. He then made a good number of followers by giving birth hundreds of children in a family(a normal servant of him had hundreds of children,then think,what will be the story of other peoples!)and then started to fight against innocent people and destroyed their religions. By doing these things Islam spread so fast. I can't think that how Muslims can be so much fool that they are still believing in that superstition(like-2,000,000,000!). Now I'll request to all of my Muslim brothers and sisters to not believe in Islam. Please think in a free mind. I know that it is so much hard because our family washed our brain from our birth. Is that fake!?Muslims says that,Quran has all types of knowledge of the world! But,when I read that,I found nothing about knowledge. It was all about fake stories of believers and non believers. There were nothing written about geography, universe,medicine,internet connection,computer,history and what not? Listen,none but a beast follows a man. Mohammad was a man,I'm a man,you are a man,we all are man. Then why you will follow his words by your whole life and will even kill yourself! As a non muslim, who was raised in a an Islamic country and and a native speaker of Arabic. I don't need anyone to tell me what Islam is. I know Islam very well and understand the Islamic mentality that hates the non muslims and suppress women. My people suffered from racism, violence, and even killing. Churches were attacked and burned. Thank God I have immigrated to Western country, I see muslims here enjoy freedom of religion and worship. I always see many ex Muslims and ex Christians who detail what they thought was false or harmful in their religion, and then say that's how they became atheists, but I've never understood the link. For instance, I used to consider myself Catholic but received no religious education. When becoming adult I actually paid attention to the Christian dogma I realized I didn't agree at all with it. But it had no impact on my belief in a God. I simply realized I didn't believe in YHWH and that my idea of God was different. I just don't really understand how rejecting a religion or even all religions can make someone an atheist and lose their previous belief in a God. You're an atheist because you reject _all_ concepts of God, not because you reject religion/religions. Thoughts?
