Sarah Jory was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1969. She loved her parents’ country records and began playing steel guitar when she was five; her musical talents were quickly recognised. She appeared in a country club the following year and made her television debut when she was eight. Her father Arthur became her manager and she joined Colorado Country. Her first album Sarah’s Steel Line released in 1981, was however made with the Warrington band Poacher. She worked with Colorado Country for four years, followed by an assortment of gigs while she completed her schooling. She regularly went to the USA playing at steel guitar conventions and at thirteen she played at the Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis with Buddy Emmons, regarded by many as the world's foremost pedal steel guitarist of his day. In 1985 she spent some time developing a new act around the pub circuit in Bristol and formed a new, fully professional band. In 1985, the British Country Music Association voted Sarah 'The Most Promising New Act', followed by being voted the 'Female Vocalist of the Year' for nine consecutive years by the BCMA. She was also voted 'European Country Rock Entertainer of the Year'.
In 1992 she signed to Ritz Records releasing a single Never Had It so Good and an album New Horizons that year. Two further albums followed in 1994 and 1995.
In 2007 Sarah Jory was the 8th Inductee into the British Country Music Hall Of Fame. She played pedal steel with the Van Morrison band during 2006 and 2009 and performed on his albums Keep It Simple and Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl. In 2009, she performed with the group Essence of Ireland on a major tour.
She continues to perform both as a solo artist, as a guest band member at numerous festivals in Europe and with her band throughout the UK. In September 2018 she celebrated her 40th Anniversary with a mini tour. To coincide with the tour, she released a new CD Sarah Jory - The 40th Anniversary 2018, this included four new tracks. For the tour she was reunited with some of her former band members Nathan O' Borne, lead guitar, Tony Kaempf, bass guitar (since 1985), Dave Bailey, keys and Barrie Cooper, drums.
Sarah was a regular visitor to the Congleton Country Music Club, always attracting a large audience. In 1994 club organiser Derek Lawrence booked the Congleton Town Hall as the usual club venue at Buglawton was too small to accommodate the large number of people who always wanted to see Sarah Jory.

Glad you like it. It's always difficult with sound. I can plug into the band's mixer (little audience response can be heard) as I did here or use a mic on the camera (audience response and other background noise heard). Overall I think it's better to take a direct audio feed. I think Sarah sounded great this evening.

Nick Catford was this to DAT? Curious what recording media you were using.

Hi Zach, all the audio recording(s) on this channel were originally recorded using the hi-fi sound tracks of the S-Vhs or Hi-8 recorders used for the videos themselves. No DAT was harmed in the process! It was the 90's when equipment was eeeek expensive! Sometimes a direct feed from the band's desk was available (though occasionally only a mono mix feed) and fed to the line inputs of the VCR, other times reliance was on the cameras own microphones. Those performances are fairly obvious because of the room acoustics. However, apart from the last few videos all the videos go through some sound processing to beef things up a little without going over the top. Due to one or two technical problems this has not been possible for the past few videos but will hopefully will be up to par shortly. If time is available, I may re-do the past few videos including Sarah's to improve sound. And a note for those far too young to even know what S-vhs, Hi-fi Beta or Hi-8 is, the 'Hi-fi sound on all those formats is exceptionally good with at least 80db dynamic range on the worst machines and frequency response, 20Hz to 20Khz... Alan Lawrence, Video editor. Keep watching and most of all, enjoy.

The band's keyboard intro with "Time is Tight" is nice cover of Booker T. and the MGs.(Booker T Jones, Steve Cropper, Doug'Duck' Dunn were the originals).
