I love how transparent the actors have been in this film festival circuit so far about how much they adore Sarah Polley. They've just been gushing endlessly about her, and it's so lovely to watch Hollywood actresses speak of a Canadian female director in that way.

Sarah Polley is so articulate, confident, and just keeps growing her skills in her craft. She is a real gem amongst Canadian filmmakers.

It's stunning to know this story was told at all. Crimes of power and sexual dominance happen everywhere. My partner was the product of sexual abuse in a Mennonite community in Iowa. He and 2 sisters were given up for adoption at birth to conceal abuse of his widowed mother by a married neighbor. The neighbor started abusing the young girls in the family and only stopped when he could have sex with their mother.

Forgiveness is not permission...great statement.

I read about this film in the san Diego newspaper yesterday and i was interested but terrified by the subject of sexual assault in a closed community. In fact, it put me into a feeling of full-on insanity, but this interview changed my mind. The director's respect toward all the community in her book and with her actors and having a community in her team, having a conversation is so vital. if I were ever a director, I'd want to be this one.

"Women Talking" is the finest, most powerful film I've seen in decades. Sarah Polley is simply brilliant. The entire cast, fabulously convincing. The art direction, flawless. I realize that an Oscar for Best Film of 2022 is a longshot but I really, really hope it wins. Totally deserves to.

Sarah Polley is simply amazing.

It's a deep, engaging conversation with smart, talented, insightful women AND I was distracted throughout by the bad chair arrangement and stark, insufficient lighting - with 1.5 panelists sitting in the dark! That stage is off-putting for a viewer and I imagine even more so for participants. Suggestion for future - a minor arc of the chairs would bring all into light and allow panelists to see each other. Surely the venue can also manage warmer, more encouraging seating and lighting for these discussions.

OK, as a 63 year old who faithfully watched The Monkees TV show with my late big sister and a pair of sisters who lived across the street from us when I was in the early years of elementary school, I will forgive you the polyester in favor of Daydream Believer! I'm hoping to see this film tomorrow up in Tallahassee, two hours from the small town in which I live.

I think the beauty of the film was its honesty and its willingness to be unapologetic. I know at 60 that a good question for a man is do you know what it's like to have what you say not matter every day

I love the piece on forgiveness and how it is a very very complex notion. And I would add the question of justice and the individual and collective interplay between both notions

I have learned for me, I can forgive, but for my own good I need not forget...To make better choices in the future...Forgiveness in this way, opens the door to self esteem, self care and self love which is ultimately the deserving goal inside this story. I found the movie very powerful. At the end the theater was silent as the women had been...I could not hold the silence and wondering if there were others that felt the same...I let out a huge wooohoo! Then I clapped loudly...and said loudly Women Power!! On my way out...I suggested Never be silent!

What a great ensemble of empowering, inspirational and devoted women. I only wish that Francis could have been there. Love the part where we talk about forgiveness. This movie is going to be emotional as well as thought-provoking.

Amazing film Sarah Polley is an amazing filmmaker it is a travesty she didnt get a Best Director nomination. I hope she wins for the screenplay. I hope she makes films more frequently now.

what the heck Frances McDormand died!! ? …. the host guy said "she's not here with us but here in spirit" … okay I've googled , I misunderstood …but shit man that was crazy ambiguous way to put it buddy! ... I mean how many times have you heard that said about people who have died , whatever . Looking forward to seeing this movie , even though being a man but hey we do deserve to take that judgement on of the guilt for our sometimes horrific behaviours of the past when it comes to women . As well, all the actresses I've seen in multiple films etc. and they are all such talented people , Rooney Mara and Claire Roy , Frances etc , not too mention Sarah who has become such a great film maker wow , if you haven't seen " Stories We Tell" its a great and brave autiobiograhical type film about her family , her use of CGI in the film in such a creative way and the way she ties the the film together just shows how talented she is really .

Why polyester? It's terrible in so many ways, made from petrochemicals created in refineries and chemical plants, where mostly poor people of color live in the adjacent "fenceline" communities with extraordinarily high rates of cancer and respiratory illness due to toxic emissions from these industrial facilities, from which they can't escape because no one will buy their homes. And the petroleum and natural gas processed there was extracted through drilling and/or fracking at great risk to our shared environment and all the other living beings with whom we share it. Trust me: I live in the Florida Panhandle and lived through the Deepwater Horizon disaster less than a year after I moved to my dream destination on Apalachicola Bay for which I signed a contract on a home on my 50th birthday. Who knows what ongoing effects are still in play in Apalachicola Bay and the rest of the Gulf of Mexico from that disaster. And are all y'all aware that every time you wash synthetic fibers, tiny and even microscopic bits of of the fibers slough off in the washing machine and drain into whatever water body receives your municipality's wastewater? These fibers are not filtered out at your local wastewater treatment plant so they're dumped into waterways, and being found in all sorts of marine life, and in birds and other wildlife who eat fish and crabs and other riverine and marine organisms, and even in our own bodies. Why couldn't the costume designer have used natural fibers? In addition to the benefits of avoiding all I've described above, the costumes would have been a lot cooler for the actors wearing them. It would be a total win-win! I'm sorry to have to rail on this but it's important and people need to start thinking about this sort of thing. Seriously, we need to be woke about this!
