this is honestly fascinating. the notion that those acting with extreme violence in response to minor resistance are doing so out of a sincere sense of danger is eye opening. like I never considered it in such clear terms.

Molly B. Farneth's "Hegel's Social Ethics" and Sarah Schulman's "Conflict Is Not Abuse" are probably the two books that can save whatever is left of "the left" that has been taken over by neoliberal intersectionality, progressive capitalism, and an exclusionary politic that moralizes the commodification of emotional labor.

Both of you in the previous two comments have missed the point completely. I’d encourage you both to read the whole book as it has genuinely promoted some very insightful thought on behaviour and responses to triggers. I myself experienced the isolation and post trauma of being subject to the legal system and Domestic Violence orders when in fact an my pursuit for a fair conversation was overstated by partner as not conflict in our relationship but as abuse because self reflection was something she was unfortunately incapable of. The stonewalling, rumour spreading, abandonment, financial abuse and discard for my safety, left me so psychologically abused with no source for assistance because the unfortunate bias is that “she didn’t want to talk so you should have left her alone”. I would wonder if roles were reversed, would the same thing be said? Looking for ways to save our relationships not harassment. It’s responsible. But resistance to explore the real problems and the illusion of self righteousness is definitely abuse and the most tragic experience of my life.
