@@SarahKey Funfact in terms of difficulty: the original PS2 version of the game that was shipped to EU and NA had a localization-error which resulted in a higher difficulty-setting, EU/NA Easy was Japan Normal, EU/NA Normal was Japan Hard-mode and so on. The final fight against Vergil on EU/NA Dante must die-difficulty was mindbreakingly hard because of that because of the formentioned localization-error EU/NA DmD-mode wasn`t even supposed to be in the game

I liked the ridiculousness of young Dante and over-the-top set pieces of DMC3. Those reasons was why it was most people's favorite, and i guess that's why Capcom decided to pass that trait to DMC5 Nero. He's a quipster now like Dante when DMC4 Nero used to be an edgelord.

13:20 I love how Dante looks back at the door in disbelief, he even posed with his back turned to it, he actually thought it was gonna fall. Always liked when Dante tries to look cool and fails, makes the character a lot more charming, he's just a huge dork who wants to look cool in front of others.

So some context since you've now played 1 - 3, at the end when Vergil fights the Prince of Darkness, Mundus, he gets corrupted by him. And in DMC1 (which takes place after 3), the Dark Knight you fight (Nelo Angelo) is Vergil corrupted by Mundus. Basically, he lost. So yes, this is a prequel to 1. The actual timeline of events is DMC3 --> 1 --> 2 --> 4 --> 5.

Lady's final scene with Arkham is one of the most well executed emotional revenges I've seen in a video game. As much as someone can hate their parents, killing them won't ever feel good. "You never recover from that."

Fun fact, with the doppelganger ability and the super dante outfit (unlimited devil trigger) it's possible to play 2 players in this game. 2nd controller will control the shadow dante!

A shame only the Switch version has an official co-op mode when they had two such hidden options since the vanilla ps2 version. Hopefully future console ports are based on the Switch version so everyone can get co-op BP.

@@Miriam_J_ Agreed, I love the Switch but I'm afraid to play DMC 3 on it, afraid I'll break the analog stick considering I've worn out 4 Ds4 sticks on DMC 5. The Switch version doesn't have input lag, but it does have some strange forced delays after certain moves which aren't in 4, 5, the mobile game or the PC mod for 3. For example Star Raving is borderline impossible on Switch, you can't follow Aerial Rave with Sky Star instantly for some reason. After any aerial move that doesn't cause knockback you aren't able to immediately air dash but you can for ones with knockback. This prevents you from really using air dashes in combos sadly.

Fun fact: At 59:11 Dante actually cut Vergil in half. The Sparda twins' regeneration abilities are just so incredibly powerful, that Vergil's body healed before it could be completely split in two.

53:55 just to clarify, it makes sense that he could survive that fall cuz Arkham has demonic power, cuz of the ritual Vergil mentioned, when he sacrificed Lady's mom, he became part devil, which explains a lot of his abilities in the game... btw the Jester and Arkham are voiced by the same guy which is insane considering how different the two characters are !

I would say "not yet". DMC story doesn't seem to reach it ending yet (consider if Capcom will still making it). Who knows maybe in the future they will introduce a legit true Angels enemies as well as Heaven/Paradise. I mean fr, how long they gonna keep with the same story of "oh another demon rise as the new king in the underworld...again!" That why DMC4 story actually feel fresh. It introduce "false-angelic" threat instead of usual demon king stuff. If God of War can step up into a new mythologies, then there no problem for an actual Angels and the force of Heaven as the next threat in DMC lore.

A neat little Easter egg about this game is that each cutscene that shows before the actual level, the mission number is very well conveniently placed within the cutscene! It's fun to try and look for it, but in the Theater mode to see each individual cutscene, the actual thumbnail IS that conveniently placed number!

The first fight with Virgil is one of my absolute fav fights in this game, I LOVE the little detail that at the start of the fight his hair is in its usual slicked-back style, but once he hits half health and his second phase starts his hair drops and becomes like Dante's! This game is still so stylish and extra and I love it!

Something important and really interesting to note -- Vergil's voice actor can never put on this performance again, because when he recorded the lines for DMC3, he had a cold. It's why they have that very specific nasally quality, and it's not something he can do normally. But it's a super iconic performance as a result of it!

Smart move picking gold. What it does is determine if there are yellow or gold orbs you can pick up in the game. Yellow orbs will reset you to the last checkpoint if used, or restart the entire level if you decide against it. Gold will reset you to the beginning of the room you died in when used, or the last checkpoint when you decide to not use it.

20:35 NGL didn't expect you to get this, kudos. This is a very difficult challenge on one's 1st playthrough given the more limited moveset, and it really can't be cheesed without learning the game's style system somewhat. Most players skip it 1st time around, I'm sure.

I have been watching that opening office fight scene for nearly twenty years now (13 year old me had a bit of a crush) and I will say that Dante smashing the jukebox for it to play "Goofy Goober" is bar none the best joke for that scene I've ever heard. It's basically in-character too.

Never seen your channel before and of course it's gonna be for one of my favorite games of all time. Funny story, I used to be afraid of Devil May Cry as a series because of the Devil May Cry 3 box art. But when I first saw the cutscene where Dante gets stabbed a bunch of times and still fights the demons unafraid of it all in some random KZfaq clip back in like 2005, it helped me get over my fear of M rated games. That moment defined my childhood.

DMC3 is quite the hard game and your gameplay was super on point. That ending of the first fight with Vergil was nail biting!!! Looking fwd to the rest of the series. P.S. 1:03:28 @SarahKey what Vergil fought here "the prince of darkness" was actually mundus and he lost to mundus in the fight that happened right after he lost to Dante. that's how Vergil became the purple dude (Nelo Angelo) that you fight 3 times in devil may cry (the first game) it's because Vergil fought mundus in hell and lost, then got possessed by him to come a servant to kill Dante. (hope this lore explanation helped)

I was so bad at this game. Tried it when it first came out and had no idea what I was doing and kept getting stuck and lost. It’s a tough game! Congrats on completing it! I never did.

I played this game ever since I was 9. This is so addictive and you’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg just yet. Going down the iceberg and the rabbit hole will make your surely hooked to this game even if this game is very old. You gotta learn the frames of your opponents and jump cancelling and royalguard cancelling. There’s just too much. Playing this game with the bloody palace multiplayer is heaven for me.

Wow, its good to see someone play DMC3 even after much years, this is my favorite DMC. And just to mention, after this dmc, dmc 2 begins, u can see thats Dante is wearing dmc 2 clothes on ending, and Vergil show up like a boss in dmc 2 after loss that battle with thne prince of darkness and be controled by it =)...greetins from Brazil

At the end there, the Prince of Darkness is Mundus, DMC3 as you know is a prequel to DMC1 and that's how Vergil gets captured and corrupted by Mundus. He loses to him at the end and Mundus uses him to get to Dante.

as someone who played this like 100 times and loves it very dearly I am so very grateful for this video. thank you. i got chills multiple times. i cried a little. and I'm surprised how well the story holds up. on an odd note it gives me "little brother to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" vibes in terms of over the top stylized also the kingdom hearts references were all great

In the final part where Vergil comes out, the one he fights with is Mundus from "Devil My Cry 1" and he loses, so he becomes Nelo Angelo.

fun little bit of trivia, Vergil stabbing dante with the rebellion is what unlocks his demon powers, it's why he's pretty much 100 percent okay afterward.

I remember my mom seeing this on my new bought desktop computer back in 2005 or 6 , and shes like "don't play that game, it has devil on it" and then like later she got curious too and says "try opening that game" and was like "this looks cool, the guy has a big sword" xD
