I wasn't sure if I would be able to connect with this game, but I absolutely did. The story is wonderful, and I genuinely hope that in the future we see a remake for this game.

42:01 "Why am I such an emotional person?" It's not you Sarah, it's the game... There have been very few video games out there to use music so masterfully to enhance very touching story moments. Really, back in those days, video games were just "games". There were few video games at that time that were more than a "fun entertainment" and transcended to genuine works of art, and this really was the first video game that left me with this impression. From the moment "Marching Magitek" played on at the beginning I knew that this was going to be "something special". It's no different than movies: no matter how old they are, true masterpieces will still make you feel, make you hurt, make you care about the story they present to you and the characters in it.
@bdou.8425
@bdou.8425 4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, you mean that Falcon Airship accident right? She's definitely not emotional at all, it's just that Final Fantasy has some epic drama deliverance with ambiance+scenario+music+story. That stairs scene where he's going down and stops Sabin everytime the steps associate him with a nostalgic flashback, like going through a family album. Then when she says she'll be back before sunrise and it show Setzer watching the end of it, you don't even need words to know what happened... very beautiful scene for a 16-bit game too. But then, the epicness comes from the break in the sad music and the "Searching for Friends" theme starts, which is a bittersweet, yet hopeful tune, that perfectly matches the tune of trying to revitalize a world that's literally in ruins. Very nice to see the Falcon Airship coming out of the waters, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. For things like these that Final Fantasy VI is a masterpiece. I also love the Sabin/Edgar coin toss... amazing how many emotions they could deliver through 16-bit characters.

I've never played past 1h of any FF except for 3 (the actual 3, not 6) wich is the only one I've finished, years ago on the DS, now I decided to pick up the franchise, but I didn't want to play 7, 9 or 10 first because they are too mainstream, so I decided to go ahead and try the hidden gem that is 6, and I felt the same just by seeing those marching magitek in the intro, right now I'm just after Celes leaves the island with the raft, and I'm enjoying every single bit of this game.
@ProjektBurn
@ProjektBurn 3 жыл бұрын
@@zPamboli It's such a great game! Every couple years I take a trip down nostalgic lane and play it again. When you finish, you should check around for the modded version that ramps the difficulty up a bit and removes some of the cheats (Vanish + Doom = Instakill). But when finished, you gotta check out the original FF7 and take it for when it came out, not compare it to today's games. There's an event in FF7 that makes FF6's feels feel like a theme park ride. But no matter what, Kefka > Sepheroth by all accounts. There's no villain in video game history who gets everything he wants and effectively "wins" like Kefka does. He even gets the death he desires at the end of the game. It's such a good story.
@gray_fox6949

@@zPamboli ff7 is a little bit overrated but it's still a masterpice, maybe not like 6,but has some fantastic character. Maybe the story in particular isn't original like the 6's, but the characters really stand out from the others main ff characters.

Having been born in 85, FF6 had a major impact on me growing up, whether or not I realized it at the time. It's quite unique to see FF6 as someone from a younger generation's first SNES game, which is slowly becoming the forgotten FF, seeing that all non-SNES versions aren't much good, all while FF7 gets major revival focus and overshadows its predecessor. There are so many emotions to experience with each play through and hidden quirks in the gameplay that make for a treasure trove of replay value, while trying to figure everything about it, starting with your unfortunate desert death from the magitek armor - completely as a result of nothing in the game having indicated danger prior to that moment, and no pertinence in how to save your game through the menu. These may even be considered mistakes in design. But as a whole the game is such a marvel that it's best to preserve everything that made it how it is. Or I'm just giving excuses, although if any game deserves praise beyond any of its flaws it's this one. One utterly crazy thing hidden in the story that must be pieced together is how Kefka came to be how he was. This is much more knowable in the GBA version's translation. I highly recommend watching Shadow's hidden Inn backstory cut-scenes (GBA version, KZfaq) to find out this unspoken truth - about the super likely origin of Kefka. I'd be willing to say it's the most impactful knowledge to have in the whole game, just there, hiding in the shadows, complimenting perfectly the game's overt stories. Then start thinking about why Shadow shows up where he does in the game, and it's so meaningful. I really want to see your very ending reaction! Hopefully the full version is up on your channel sometime.

@@MS-ql8ek Upgrading the 2D graphics and sprites into a 3D environment with models is good and I'd be on board with that. Completely changing the mechanics to be some stupid third person slasher instead of a turn based RPG and then bloating out the story so you can sell it in 4-5 parts of $90 each is not good. FF7R is not a remake, and for them to label it as such is misleading. That game is a reimagining. I don't trust the devs not to exploit the games popularity and to implement predatory tactics to milk money from the fanbase though. FF15 and FF7R has drained all the good faith I've had from them.

I wish we could get another 16 Bit Final Fantasy. This game was my gateway into the series, everyone should play this game at least once in their life. It has the most playable characters in the series to this day and the most customization next to FF7 and each character also has their own unique abilities and skills. Brian Noland All those things you mentioned maybe could be re-balanced in a Remake but it’s up for debate whether people would love to see FF6 Remade, some say it’s good enough as is but yeah you can grind Cactuars to make everyone Magic Overlords and yes it defeats the purpose of using Physical Attacks and unique skills but it’s a choice, you don’t have to necessarily make everyone know every type of Magic Spell. It’s like in FF2 and FF8 where you can overpower yourself before ever progressing through the first plot point by attacking yourself for HP growth or using Card Mod for spells.

Yep. I think it was actually the perfect sweet spot of technology and cultural activity at the time, but we didn't necessarily know it then. Before this, designers had good ideas, but the technology was too limited for games like this, after this, everyone got carried with how good the technology became, flashy graphics increasingly became the main selling point, and gaming became more mainstream -> tolerance and tendency towards making turn based RPGs mostly focused on plot with lots of dialogue plummeted. A similar thing happened with the internet itself.

If you noticed, she technically "waited" the first time because she hit that dead end patch and didn't know where to go - she just didn't execute it properly. I don't blame her for not knowing. To most people, Shadow's last line about waiting for him sounds like flavor text - not a legitimate HODOR moment at the edge of a cliff. I guess you could argue that the "Wait for Shadow" 2nd line of the text at the edge would give it away, but that's easily missable on your first playthrough.

Absolutely loved the commentary and the reactions was great to see someone else feeling all the feely feelers this game touches. Such a well made game quite possibly my favorite rpg of all time. Chrono Trigger is another great SNES title and if you ever want to check another good RPG Star Ocean the Second Story for the PS1 is fantastic (Also the other RPG vying for #1 in my heart) The first Star Ocean for SNES was also a good game but I have yet to finish that one

This game has got to have one of THE best end game scenes and credit rolls of all time. The characters, the storyline and oh man, the music - triple trifecta. ESPECIALLY the music. It really is epic! You cannot duplicate this game to match that moment.

I just want to thank you for doing this. I'm sure the editing wasn't easy, but I was 11 when this game came out and so this series and in particular, this game (and Chrono Trigger) have a special place in my heart. It's good to know young gamers like yourself know and enjoy the classics when they play them. If you do play more of these SNES JRPGs, like Chrono Trigger, or Terranigma, I will continue to watch. BTW, Sabin was my personal favorite character in this game, though they are all so great.

Honestly, one of the best games of all time. And IMHO, the best single-player FF of all time (with 9 coming in a close second, and 4 third). Very character-driven game, and the largest cast of any single-player FF. I played hours upon hours upon hours of this game when I was in high school - would beat it and start all over again. And this was before Square invented New Game+ with Chrono Trigger.

Sarah! Thank you so much for playing this game! I beat it at the beginning of this year after playing through it all the way in 2019. It took me the entire year because of school and stuff, but I'm glad I played it. And I ALSO played it on the SNES Classic! Glad to hear you loved playing the game! Can't wait to see you play Chrono Trigger, too! I beat it for the first time back in February and I love it so much. Trust me, you're gonna love it. Especially the music! One RPG that I really recommend you playing is EarthBound. It was released back in 1994 on the SNES and has a rather small but dedicated fan-base. It's one game I would love to see you play, and one I wish more people played. Cheers!
