Just a couple things to bear in mind for the characters that don't know Nezuko personally and are operating under the assumption (and experience) that Giyu laid out for us at the start of the show: that demons even eat family members because they can't override their instincts. We see a "normal" demon turning in Tokyo when Muzan scratches that guys neck; he tries to eat his wife instantly without any goading. We see Rui not being feral around his parents (very impressive, he must have loved them a lot before becoming a demon), but he calmly killed them when they threatened his life. We see the Tsuzumi demon hide his demon form to take lessons, but he killed his teacher when he got angry. So, some demons have a level of control that demon slayers would want to avoid being deceived by. Any demon would try to act non-violent with all these dangerous hashiras around, so the testing of their monstrous instinct must be thorough if they're going to be considered safe to let live. (their instinct is the problem with all demons in the first place, at least half of the demons that we've met so far were normal mild people in their human life) . The stabbing of Nezuko is to injure her to see if she can override the instinctual demonic need to eat to help heal. I think multiple stabs serves to make sure she is angry (and very injured), in case she's used to having only a certain amount of instinct she has to fight against to try not to eat someone. Otherwise, she might snap and give in to her instincts later on if she's pushed too far by situations that are known for pushing demons out of control, like being angered or severely injured. I don't think Sanemi was just enjoying the cruelty of stabbing her, his laughing and crazed look (compared to his calmness when the master came out) would be purposeful to goad Nezuko. Obviously he his a crazy violent person still, but not really acting unnecessarily based on his own experience with battling demons. (Obviously, all of the Hashira have fought many more demons than we've seen in Season 1, but their experiences are much different than Tanjiro's and ours (we know they've never met Muzan, or Lady Tamayo and Yuishiro since they hide, or Nezuko)).

As you noticed, the voice actor of Rengoku-san is same actor of Daichi of Haikyu😊.

To be fair to the Hashira I can't imagine how many times someone has used the "They might be a demon but they are my family/friend/lover, they are different!" before having to save that person from being munched. Nezuko is literally unique. Wind might be a bit too aggressive tho xD

Seppuku is a form of Japanese ritualistic suicide by disembowelment. 26:55 The Love Hashira didn't pass away, she was knocked down by the Sound Hashira's knee as he turned around. If you listen carefully, there's a sound effect of his knee knocking her😂😂😂 The reason why the Wind Hashira is stabbing Nezuko is because when demons get injured (or hungry), they need to heal their wounds, and they are driven to devour humans, which helps them recover faster. I know you guys are mad at the Wind Hashira, but there are reasons why he's so aggressive. When you get to know him better, you might be able to understand him a little (maybe)...

I love this episode because we get to see just how well-respected the Master is! Even though some of the Hashiras may seem a little impulsive and arrogant, they respect him with all their heart and hold him to such a high standard! Also the way he speaks in this episode really shows how wise and reasonable he is. I really love his character and can't wait for you guys to get to know more of him and the Ubuyashiki family!

Sarah that hairstyle make look you so gorgeous. The hashira isnt acting on bad intentions, they have backstories and years being slayers and never see something like Nezuko. They just never know about it. The crazy guy, Sanemi wind hashira, is provoking Nezuko with the stabs and his special blood (same to the Tsuzumi demon). Muzan never shows up and if he face a slayer, kill them without doubt. This is the reason no hashira has meet him before. The voice actor of the Master is incredible, it always relax me and we can see the respect he have from the slayers.

I don't think Tanjiro is the only one who saw kibutsuji, I think he is the only one who survived after seeing him, I could be wrong tho

I've been waiting so long for this episode!!! I love that you guys enjoyed your intro to the Hashira. It's a lot to take in and memorize names, but don't worry you'll get to know each of them one at a time. They don't throw all their backstories at you all at once like their intro lol. The Love Hashira is well-liked by mostly everyone. She's super bubbly and affectionate with all...hence her becoming the Love Hashira 😅 Sanemi is definitely an abrasive a-hole, but he's an a-hole with a backstory. Not that it excuses his cruelty, but it makes you understand his character a little more once you know it. He definitely deserves worse than a head butt though! The moment Tanjiro notes that Sanemi (Wind Hashira) is not some blood thirsty, rocks-for-brain dummy and can form coherent and formal speech is always so funny to me. He rarely thinks ill of people, but he really just dragged Sanemi for filth right there 😂 Makes me chuckle every time. The Master's motivations for allowing Nezuko to live isn't so unfeeling, but you both are right in that it's also a strategy thing related to Nezuko's uniqueness as a demon. A little bit of both if you will. He's a kind man. He doesn't call the members of the corps his children for funsies, he genuinely cares about each and every member. I'm so glad you guys like the introduction to the Hashira!! It's always fun when new characters are introduced. The rest of the season has some great episodes that I really love. You guys have probably already watched them and I can't wait to see your reactions to the backstories, humour, bonding, and set up for the next season...it's gonna be fun!!!

I really liked this episode because it did a pretty good job of portraying just how different all the Hashira are, not just in terms of looks but also personality. Its a lot of new characters to learn the names of all at once, but the possibilities from their introduction is great from a story standpoint. Looking forward to future episode reactions. 💙

''Seppuku' is the kanji for '*切腹*', which directly means 'to die by cutting one's own abdomen'. It is the manner of the samurai and a more honourable way to die than execution. For example, a general who has been defeated in battle seppuku with the intention that he fought for justice but was defeated, that there was no malice in him, and that he will prove it by showing the inside of his body when he dies.

Not really that Shinazugawa was being unreasonable. Without spoiler, from only what he said, the Corpse has been fighting with the demon for a very long time and so many people, countless people loss their lives. During that period, it might not even a single demon who show up and prove that what Nezuko did was really possible. It really against the rules and against the purposes of what Hashira is living for. So, it's a very lucky for Tanjiro that Nezuko received their chance to prove it. Since all other Hashiras were already proved their words by being worthy swordsman before him. As same as the Master said, he must respect them, as they earn their spot, if he wanted them to listen to him, then he needs to prove his worth. BTW, love your reaction ❤

Do I condone the Sanemi's (Wind Hashira) actions? No. Was he excessive in his handling of Nezuko? Absolutely. Even Shinobu (Insect Hashira) noted that he was out of line. With that being said, I can understand Sanemi's (and the other Hashiras) animosity towards demons. Day in and day out, these Hashira fight/exterminate demons. They're soldiers on the battlefield to vanquish their foe. It's not easy for them to accept their enemy, by nature, as an ally. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them have met demons that have tried to beguile them in the past. I had a similar experience as a child, but fortunately without the violence. I'm a Christian Japanese-American and my family was on vacation in the midwest of the US. On Sunday, we decided to go to our nearest church in the area. As we settled ourselves on the bench beside an elderly couple, the husband noticed us and then stormed out of the chapel. We could tell that he was visibly upset. His wife apologized to us but also explained the situation. He was a WWII veteran and he was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and continued his tour in the Service fighting the Japanese in the Pacific. With his history of fighting against the Japanese, apparently the sight of any Asian triggers his PTSD. Mentally, he understood that not all Asians (Japanese, in particular) are bad, but he just couldn't fully deprogram his instinct to attack them when he sees them so he instead just removes himself from the situation. The trial in this episode and the vehement opposition by the Hashira reminded me of that veteran I "met" on that Sunday 30 years ago.

You indeed do not have to pluralize Hashira. Japanese nouns do not conjugate for plurality.

I believe the crow sent Tanjiro to Tokyo because of the tamari demon and the arrow demon. Michael Jackson had the perfect disguise, the fact that Tanjiro met him was only thanks to his amazing sense of smell.

@31:05 As much as I hated this scene, the extra stabs were probably necessary. Sanemi has no proof that this demon hasn't feasted on anyone. To recover, a demon needs to feed, so the stabs were to make sure she's hungry for blood.

I understand hating sanemi here and i did too but you have to understand these people have all been affected by demons in the worst way. if a demon killed your whole family and someone is saying this demon is different it would be really hard to accept it.

He's probably hiding from the hashiras actively too, from what we've experienced, kibitsuji is a very cowardy individual, he's insecure about his pale skin and he snaps if anyone mentions it. He ingrains the idea demons shouldn't stay in group all to protect his status. Also he hides very well in the human world so that would also explain why demon slayers seldom caught wind about him

Yes I was a fan of Beetlejuice when I was younger. I can understand the Hashiras thought process despite not liking the method as they haven't seen Tanjiro and Nezukos adventures and backstory but I'm hoping the tidbits about the Muzan connection help them calm down a bit. People have already been defensible of the Wind Hashira. So I'm just gonna comment in general they're all pretty brutal people(for reasons you will learn obviously), but its not shocking that in your most effective fighting force(Hashira's) they're pretty blood thirsty. Carrying hatred and violence in your heart towards demons is a powerful motivator. They're not all a bunch of sweet guys and gals(as you already were shown with Shinobu the butterfly lady) they're efficient and effective soldiers fighting an unending war. Sanemi(Wind Hashira) is definitely a wild card, but an amazing person to have on your side when it comes down to dispatching demons with extreme prejudice. Its alright though, obviously its easier to see things from Tanjiro and Nezuko's view since we've been following them.
