Do you read a lot of Stephen King? Can you do a Stephen King recommendation/guide video? I've never read his books but want to start somewhere.
@jennifercahill7397
@jennifercahill7397 6 жыл бұрын
I'd start with smaller ones first. I've read most of his books. If you like short stories, Night Shift or Skeleton Key are very nice collections. I'd personally recommend Carrie, Pet Sematary, Misery, or Firestarter as first novels. A lot of his tend to be very long/complicated. If you want more recent, he did a collab with another horror writer for a novella called Gwendy's Button Box which is more of a horror-fantasy. I literally couldn't put it down and finished it within hours.

I just read Dracula last month and loved it! I figured I would really like it but it still took me by surprise. Yeah, a new favorite for sure! I also love Frankenstein and Edgar Allan Poe! Oh, Poe. My favorite story of his (that's I've read) is The Cast of Amontillado. I plan on reading The Devil In The White City this fall! This month if I can but I'm also already reading 4 pretty big books, so it's on the bottom of my October TBR. It might have to be next month when I read it. Oh jeez, this just reminds me how many Halloween-ish books i haven't read!! Carrie, Salem's Lot, Perfume ... all already on my never-ending, ever-growing TBR! I also love The Picture of Dorian Gray, which isn't spooky really but it's a Victorian Gothic novel, and that totally fits into Fall/Autumn reads! Any Victorian or Gothic classic for Fall! I'm in!

That skeleton cup is amazing! Did you hear Sabrina is going to be a TV show in the future? I definitely want to read that. OK, damn, sold me on Junji Ito, girl. That cat picture though. Any idea which one has that picture in it? "Mind fucky", haha. I read Dracula for Halloween and it is my favorite classic of the year. I felt the ending was a little anti-climatic and a few parts here and there were slow, but overall, awesome. Very easy to follow. I didn't even use Sparknotes for once. That Poe book is gorgeous. I was that morbid child too. Watching scary movies and reading spooky books. And also writing creepy things. Looking back it's a wonder my teachers weren't concerned at all. Thinner was pretty creepy. Have you read Gwendy's Button Box or Sleeping Beauties yet? I'd really like to get to Perfume since I'm going to France next year. Great recs. I'd recommend The Merciless (it's a trilogy but have only read the first one) by Danielle Vega and the I Hunt Killers trilogy if you haven't yet.

There is something I would like to ask you, Sarah. I do not know if you or anyone else will ever respond to my query but I would still like to ask. From my earliest years, I have known people using the term ‘Frankenstein’ to refer to the monster of the story. It is well accepted among the masses. I do not consider this acceptation erroneous. Please tell me what do you think Mrs. Shelley wanted to refer to by calling the novel ‘Frankenstein’? If the scientist, then why not the full name? To make it simple, all I want to know is what does the title signify? I would be grateful if you or anyone else responds to my query. Thank You.
@bluesapphire170
@bluesapphire170 5 жыл бұрын
Hello~ you have received a response one year later. I believe Mrs. Shelly wanted us to be misdirected, she wanted to make us think that Frankenstein is the protagonist and that we should sympathize with him. In a way the Doctor was the protagonist, but who we should really focus on is the Monster, which I lovingly nickname Adam. Truthfully, the story tells us the tale of the monster and the complex web of emotions that surround him that origin from the doctors actions in wanting to play god. It is a tale of conflict and mutual suffering on both ends of the spectrum, meant to make us, the readers, vary in the emotional scale and expend our thought process regarding our two protagonists as you do not know who to cheer for in the end, if you cheer at all, or if you just switch between your focus on who the actual protagonist really is. That said, if you read the book for the first time and then re read it, you notice how your view completely changes about the characters and notice tiny details you might have missed. In short, Mrs. Shelly was a master of emotional manipulation and the art of misdirection. At least that’s my thought process.

Thanks a lot Sir. Last year was the 200th anniversary of the first publication of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and a magazine was requesting papers on Frankenstein for a special edition. I wanted to publish an article on "the significance of the title". I watched this video and was excited by the lady's mention of the use of the title. That was why I put forth this question. Sadly, neither she nor anyone else responded to me for a whole year till you did. Thank you again. I now have my doubts regarding this woman's understanding of literature. As for the others, I believe they just came to see this lady.

@bluesapphire170 5 жыл бұрын
Im glad to be of help, even if it’s a year later. This is one of the most beloved pieces of literature I have ever read, and I really love when people appreciate Mrs. Shelly’s genius works. I’ll be honest, her view on it was pretty disappointing to me as well, I’m not sure if she really understood the complexity that is layered in this story, but to be fair this is probably after the first reading, we don’t know if she read it again and thought differently. Even if not everyone is entitled to their own option and I’m sure we can respect that. I hope that your article went well in the end, Im sure I would have enjoyed reading it.

@@SiddharthatheGreat I understand that you wanted to ask this girl what is the actual meaning and significance of the title Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein. That is not an easy question to answer. Neither this girl nor any other person wanted to answer your question because they themselves were not sure. It is also possible that this girl did not respond to you because she thought your intention was nothing but to flirt with her. Anyways, be happy and keep reading.

Why does everyone think Carrie is scary? ( *yay it rhymed* 😶) Anyway I just found the novel so poignant and beautiful. And it just reminds me of The Virgin Suicides, in that the author capture such a visceral sense of teenage girlhood so perfectly in their writing. It somehow makes me all nostalgic about the present.
