EXTREME String Pull ~ HUGE 24 x 30 Canvas! | 30 Foot String Dip | How Much String is Too Much?

Sara's Abstract Expressions

Күн бұрын

Today I show you our thirty foot string pull. In this extreme string pull, we determine how much string is too much, by possibly using too much string.
This took a lot of work between the two of us to create such a beautiful string pull on this huge 24 x 30 canvas!
As most of you know I suffer from anxiety, which makes me extremely shaky and it's difficult to hold a steady hand. So, I had Jeff lay the string down as he is a painter by trade... this is what he does.
As I said, the only thing I am truly disappointed with is the fact that the center got all the muddied. In a way, it turned out for the best, giving the center a very stem-like look.
I used Rheotech Carbon Black, Titanium White, Fluorescent Magenta, and FolkArt 14 karat gold to make this piece, as many of you have inquired.
The white I applied at the beginning is just the titanium white, mixed as I mix all my paints ( • 1 BIG SECRET TO POUR P... ), perhaps just a bit runnier as I like my white a bit thin, but no silicone in it.
I wanted to create my own challenge, and that I did.
Side note 2 years later:
I can't believe the incredible support you have all been! I never would have imagined one of my videos would ever get over a million views! I only wish it hadn't been one of my string pulls lol. I've recently made a video addressing this, I'd love for you to check it out: • NO MORE STRING PULLS! ...

For each painting, I eyeball about 40% acrylic paint, 40% Floetrol, 20% water, and 1 - 3 drops of silicone oil in the colors I choose. I sign every piece and cover them with 3 coats of Krylon low-odor, clear gloss spray. I do most of my pour painting with Rheotech, unless I see something fancy while I`m out.
**Please Note: It takes about 30 days for each painting to fully cure. At this point, they are washed with soapy water to remove the silicone residue on the surface. They are then sealed with Krylon Clear Gloss Spray or gloss varnish.**

Sara, that was worth every second in the 18.03 minutes just to see what blossomed at the end. If I can enlist the assistance of another pair of hands I will be attempting this project. The music was as transcendental as the art. Thank you to you and Jeff.

I just read your bio. I am home on social security disability for physical reasons, but the chronic pain brings out my major depression, recurrent at times. I started doing arts and crafts as well to combat the depression and feel like you, a sense of accomplishment and pride. I did make wire tree sculptures for a few years on Etsy. Am in 5 countries and very proud to know my work is in people’s homes. New to painting but I love. Happy holidays as best as possible in COVID times

Beautiful result Sara, A similar technique was popular in the 70's when I was I was getting into art. We used India ink and laid the string between a large folded sheet of paper. A piece of felt was placed on top followed by a weighted board. We would tie the string ends to wooden pegs for grip and pull out the string to create amazing mirrored abstracts that could be re worked in multiple layers once dry or colour washes applied in ink or watercolour. I have not seen or heard of this type of technique since... until your video - I must try it again. I can sympathise with your anxiety issues, I started having these in my mid thirties and it still plagues me. I have tried to run a few art classes as I did in the past but my anxiety flairs up and I break out in sweats and my hands shake.
