I respect civilians who died during 1919 in Amritsar. But I dint like this movie at all. This full movie can be completed in 1 n half hour. Last half n hour was fully wasted by director. It really dint connect like how shershaah connected last 45 mins were so thrilling and emotional. But performance of Vicky Kaushal is totally superbbb.

@@adnannaemaz1989 I am not a fan of happy new year or salman khan films but this movie was indeed slow for my taste. Especially at the end, the events at Jalian Wala Bagh, while it did make me cry, I think it was dragged on for too long. For me, it was director's indulgence. When a director romanticizes his work too much that he forgets that maybe he is overdoing it.. But that's just my opinion, I don't claim to know a lot about how movies should be made.

Shershaah and Sardar Udham Singh- A breath of fresh air in grounded stories and filmmaking after repeated unsuccessful attempts at making Biopics. I felt the same emotion as most would have went through. The horrifying incident and the scene where Udham is being released from prison. And to think that people actually lived through this events seeing the perpetrators are being celebrated rather than being punished for it. Historical films teach us what our ancestors went through to be what we are now. But the disappointing factor is that we can't do anything. And yes, it would have been a masterpiece for Irrfan Khan if he was alive this day. May he rest in peace.

Vicky for me is easily the best actor now in Hindi. I knew this since I saw him in Masaan. And thanks to Shoojith, Vicky got a great movie to show his acting skills. While I understand what you mean by 'be an Indian', it doesn't mean i or anyone else cannot identify more with the incident being a punjabi/sikh. Jhallianwala bagh was a national tragedy but that doesn't negate the fact that it was a tragedy that affected one cultural section of Indian. Like the bengal famine, I feel enraged and heartbroken. But the people who were most affected it by and their generations will always be more impacted by them. So the generalisation of Being Indian over everything else is not justified here.

I think the most extraordinary aspect about the movie is it's so closer to reality that you feel like standing there in the middle of action. The songs, if put right have an impact i agree but the silence here is horrifying. It's scary and you know that's what it must have been like to be there in the moment. It was perfect in my opinion. Just heart wrenchingly perfect.

I was just waiting for your take on this and here it is! I had been waiting for the release just to get the reviews and this def looks like a film I would like to watch (if we ignore how broke I am). To be honest, I had little expectation from the movie, because despite great cinematography and the amazing trailer, it could have been just another failed attempt at a patriotic movie. So, when I saw that you made a video on it, I came running to see whether this is worth my time or not. I love Vicky kaushal as an actor and would have hated for his potential to go waste. Thanks for the review, I'll be off to read the plot.

@@TriedRefusedProductions great review trp, just one thing I disagree with and that is the lack of a song. When Hollywood and other international cinema doesn't use songs in them but are impactful nonetheless, why do we need a song everytime to make us feel a certain emotion? I personally really loved the fact that the movie didn't have any songs, and only some really good background score.

I researched on the Massacre itself for my post graduate project and the anger and disgust I felt towards imperial Britain for what they did and the present royalty for what they won't acknowledge even today is such that I felt compelled to focus my research thesis and papers on imperialism and how it continues to traumatize our country to this date. So many horrors could have been avoided even today and in the future, if those bigots did not colonize in the first place. I say this just to let everyone know that their emotions are justified on the issue. What I read were standard reports from bureaucrats and news clippings, where everything was coldly reported and yet I felt so much anger. Don't feel guilt for the anger, just don't let the anger consume you. If you can and want to; find something constructive to help the situation. But don't hold back anger when it is justified.

Shook my soul, weeping, emotional, in anger. Moments are resonating in my heart and mind. Its nerve wrecking to see and can't even fathom to imagine what our history is made of, it's written in blood. Freedom fighters were martyred at the age of 23,with a dream and a determination to see Free India!! And now at the age of 23 youth is addicted to drugs, porn, a life without goals neither selflessness . It forces me to think is it for this did they laid their lives. I cry as I feel as I feel ashamed of what our society has ended up being rather than what they had thought. Can't praise enough this master piece!! Loved, weeped, felt grateful!!!

Vicky is amazing as always. But the cinematography was amazing. I was constantly reminded of The Crown series while watching the streets and bylanes of London. The writers and directors even added the sentiments of the British public, the horrifying uncertainty that they faced during WW2 and refused to not only show our independence struggle but their nerve wrecking experiences as well while tensions were brewing over Europe and their homeland. The film also refused to be overwhelmingly patriotic and manages to preach the universal message of freedom from tyranny.Truly a masterpiece !!!

The movie was made like an international film so having a song to elevate the feelings would have made it slightly less international and more bollywoood/Indian style movie. This movie had little hindi/punjabi dialogues and more English so for me this movie is on the international level that can be added to one's collection of movies related to world war era. I agree with your critique on the length of the movie. The aftermath of the Jallianwalla bagh event where Vicky (Udham Singh) is shown to carry many injured to the hospital became a bit repetitive after a point and could have been edited slightly better (or shorter) to make it even more effective. Apart from this one thing, I think this is movie is a masterpiece.

One thing for sure, this movie gives every Indian an awakening of sorts. The intent of what a revolutionary should be doing rather than the normal balidaan sort of a routine. It is so so compelling to hold back the emotions that a young adult had for 21 years to finally do what he wanted to. It also showed how police worked before the digital age which is very smart. Very well done movie and one which reminds Indians of what we had done in the past and what we may need to do in the future.
