In this, it is actually part of the judging system as "timing to the music." That sets the quality of the choreography blended well to the music they choose. Already sets the difference of dance the feel of the music than just dancing with a music background on. So sad that skaters nowadays just set aside the music for quads. Only few great skaters that can skate well at the same time really interpret the music.

When Sasha had a few years where she was trying to switch coaches and styles and such I was worried about her. But I think it was smart to go back to her roots so to speak and Tatiana Tarasova. She has a Russian ancestry and was able to skate to what she wanted to skate to. This include all The Russian classics. Period. The nutcracker pas de deux, swan lake, Romeo and Juliet, and dark eyes while also skating too the Russian composer Rachmaninoff and classical pieces like moonlight sonata and celebrating different cultures around the world including Russian and Spanish. I remember her saying that when she went to train with Tatiana Tarasova Nicoline Rosa, she asked her what she wanted out of her career. Sasha answered honestly and said I just want to compete. According to Sasha, Tatiana looked at Sasha and said very matter-of-factly: OK. But I think you can win. We have to change your thinking. When Sasha was confused, she was only about 18 at the time, she said you expect to finish behind the winner when really you’re good enoughTo finish ahead of them. They worked on her style, refined what she already had and because of it she has three world medals an Olympic medal and a national title. She is so special and she is missed. When I want to challenge myself, I do cardio to all of her programs. She seems to have had to sales a classical or Russian style during competition and a fun style for exhibitions with a Broadway slant, skating to hey big spender, The West side story overture, don’t rain on my parade from Yentl my name from cabaret and Hernandez Hideaway from the pajama game. SoMuch fun!

I have been waiting for someone to skate even a little bit like she did (artistic-wise), and not only has there been no one, but no one has even come close. Every one arms are constantly flailing throughout their programs these days and for the most part, the choreography of the routines I've been seeing has been very frantic and not mindful of musicality. Every one of Cohen's programs (even if she skated badly technically) was far and away, light years better than what I've seen in the past 4 years.

+MissThingSings It's interesting though, that when Michelle Kwan lost to Lipinski at the Olympics due to Tara's program's superior difficulty, Kwan fans lost their shit about Kwan's artistry and presentation, declaring it should have had more value that Tara's more difficult combination jumps. Seems rather inconsistent to say that artistry should have made Michelle the champion.
@fantastischfish
@fantastischfish 8 жыл бұрын
I wasn't trying to spark an argument directly with you specifically, I was just putting forward a point I've noticed. I'm not a die-hard fan in terms of watching for the perfect technique etc. I like what I like. I love Sasha's skating, and Michelle's (though agree her 1998 Olympic LP was boring!), and Tara (fast, exciting, difficult), and Joannie too is a favourite to watch, all for different reasons. I just find there's a ridiculous over-zealousness and aggressive attitude by many fans who post on these videos. I simply like to enjoy the skaters who entertain me. Competition time is over for these girls, it's time to just enjoy their performances.

@@fantastischfish Artistry is much more difficult than technique. Tara was overrated and Michelle was robbed at 1998 Olympics. Tara had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more. And Tara had a incorrect 3+3 , her performance just like a Disney cartoon without artistry . Tara was nothing but a jumper, she got hurt by the jumps....then she retired.

Evan Perilstein I think you need to read an article. Her dad as I read, didn’t actually convince her to drop Frank. For proof I do have the link to the article. I read that Dan Kwan was surprised that his daughter has dropped Frank as her coach, although her reason was quite personal . I also thought she didn’t get the desired results through him.
