The didn’t have enough dragons for every rider. It wasn’t a less rider problem it was a less dragon problem the number of graduates kept getting smaller cause the number of dragons did not the number of people volunteering

To be fair to Violet, she was meant to be a Scribe, she never wanted to be a Rider in the first place, so it makes sense that she isn't prepared for killing. Everything else though, absolutely

Yep, also riders have no say in putting saddles on their dragons. Tairn is the exception. Dragons are prideful creatures who deem their riders unworthy if they can't keep their seat. This is stressed so much. Violet also has EDS and is much physically weaker, the saddle was made out of necessity for her own accommodation. The other riders can keep their seat and have no need for it. Also seems to be confusion with infantry and the riders quadrant. Very few go to the riders quadrant, most go to the infantry.

It's always "I don't have strength but I'm fast and I'm good with dagger" blah blah blah. Also why is someone like that, with "little" combat experience, weak in phasical strength and had no experience as a conventional rider even qualified for the rider quadrant?

@@shepherdlavellen3301 She didn’t *want* to be a Rider, the only tests done for any Quadrant are intelligence ones, which she passed with ease as her intelligence is what makes her a formidable opponent, and her mother was the one who made her go into the Riders. Even if there *were* physical tests, do you really think General Sorrengail was going to take no for an answer? And generic opposed to what? If she was a six foot six hunk of meat and muscle she’d still fit into a fighter class, or if she was especially holy and regligous as many people are, she could be a Paladin. Violet works really hard to keep up with her peers, having to use alternate methods like the poison to keep herself alive. If you wanted to hear about a completely normal, average, basic life of a person who does nothing cool ever, just read a biography of your life and stop being bitter.

@@RiveriaFall 1. if the only test she passed was intelligence then why was she even qualified as a rider cadet? Ever tried to apply for Navy Seal with MIT degree only? 2. Genetic as another DND agile assassin-ish character, like Celaena, Feyre, Jude, Katniss (though tbf Suzanne Collins is the best YA writer among all her knockoffs), etc etc. It's all fantasy romance writers write. 3. inconsistent character development mixed with entitlement. When she's alone, she's "the rider training is gonna kill me" and when she's offered a way out she's like "are you looking down at me?" Even through all the supposedly struggles that didn't change her personality even the slightest, she didn't learn anything and she's still the sassy person with an attitude issue 4. it's one thing to read a dumb book that doesn't take itself seriously, it's another to read a dumb book desperately trying to be serious even though it stole elements from every other popular book and mix them in a jumble mess. Have a taste and read something better, perhaps something not in the YA or NA category

I think its kinda of shitty writing. Like, yes, most people would be rightfully against killing another, but when people or countries/kingdoms are at war they usually do their best to dehumanize their enemy so their soldiers will be willing to “eliminate” what they essentially view as monsters. The book tells as very little or the war considering its some what of an end goal.

Loved the book, but my peeves were the modern references in a non-tech book. There is a part in the book where Violet says/thinks they "must have got their wires crossed." At no other point do they talk about wires, so that phrase just doesn't belong. Also...the riders falling off the dragons, who were totally okay with it...yeah. You're going to go through this whole rigorous process of training candidates and eliminating the weak, you're going to choose AND BOND with the person, and then you're just going to let them fall off before they know how to ride? I couldn't buy into that.

As someone who just finished the book today, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by how damn often Violet mentions how hot Xaden is or how badly she wants to sleep with him. Like okay I get it, he's super hot and you're very sexually attracted to him, I don't have to be reminded almost every time he appears on the page.

Because it’s the dragons choice not peoples choice lol and it describes in the book that dragons think riders who can’t keep a seat aren’t a worthy rider but it shows in the book that Tairn accommodates to Violet and her needs which is unusual for a dragon, but Tairn cares more about her mind then her physical abilities but most other dragons care about the aggressiveness and strength hence not going to adapt to suit their rider

I'm so conflicted about this book. I flew through it but at the same time it was so full of cliches and also very unoriginal in many ways. I think it's a really enjoyable while reading but when you think about it afterwards there's just a lot of "meh" moments and quite a few things that are too similar to other books.

I personally love the book and I especially love the part that she didn't want to kill people and the reason why I love that part because if you truly think about people who go to war and most of them don't want to kill people which is why they have PTSD so at least in this book is being put out there and show that not everybody who goes to war wants to be a killer

I'm reading it right now. And I've lost count of how many times I've shouted "Oh come on!!!" When she described dragon riders, i kept thinking, this is just Dauntless in Divergent! And allowing the children of rebels executed for treason for a failed coup, now be allowed to bond with Dragons? Yeah, because we should let the children of "traitors" have access to our most powerful weapons. That makes sense. And the book's theme distresses me. Violet didnt want to be a dragon rider. Was forced by her mom. Became bonded with not 1, but 2 dragons... good lord. So her mom was right to ignore her wishes and push her into a career path that puts her life at risk, because it allows her to dress in black?! OH COME ON!!!

When it comes to her not wanting to kill people: it's not a pet peeve of mine, cause you have to remember she NEVER WANTED to be a rider and she was FORCED to become one thanks to her mom - she then worked with her situation and is learning to adapt

My pet peeve was how many times the F bomb was used... even her DRAGON started saying it! Felt like an unnecessary way to make her seem more tough.

It’s not inventing a saddle it’s most dragons being of the mindset that if they can’t keep their seat then they aren’t worthy. Xaden didn’t invent anything, he knew that Tairn would prefer violet being safe because he didn’t choose her for her physical strength but her intelligence

Uhhh with the taking a life part, violet was meant to be a scribe, scribes record and analyse battles not actually be in them, scribes are seen as weak in the book so it would make sense violet was a bit upset, the book also says she wasn’t sad she killed him she was sad that it changed her.

Until Xaden “ invented” the saddle I honestly thought all the riders used saddles. So I was mad a violet for not staying on the freaking thing. And when he showed her the saddle I was like “ but don’t they all ready use them?”

I thought about that too but then I thought deeper and I realized that Violet's dragon protects her because she's going to be a great warrior one day and the dragon know it and maybe bcoz of this he wore the saddle and we all know the rest of the dragon hate human so yeah 😅

I Violet’s defense… her mom did kinda force her into the riders quadrant. She wanted to be a scribe where she didn’t have to kill anyone.

Does no one remember that she didn’t want to go to War college? She literally spent her life training to be a scribe in a library, where it’s silent, and that her mother forced her into that way of life?!??

She had every opportunity to go to the scribe quadrant, even with a plan to go & not get kicked back to the riders quadrant. But she stayed. I think the person who posted this video has a valid point.
