Damn!! I sure wished I saw Ultravox in concert in 1977 with guitarist Stevie Sheers. But I did see them in March of 1979 with John Foxx and guitarist Robin Simon at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, California. I was right up in front of center stage and held up my right hand as high as I could, and John Foxx bended down while he was singing and gave me a five! I was 23 back then.

That first Ultravox! album did such a good job bridging the gap between Glam and Punk. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see them until the tour for the second album.

Amazing. Brings back equally amazing memories of seeing them live in 77.

Love this song and loved John Foxx as frontman in Ultravox!

Yes he was, and the founding member of Ultravox in 1974 when he was attending Art College. Please read my posted comment above yours if you are interested.

Incredibly sad news tonight of the passing of Chris Cross, bass player with Ultravox. The version with John Foxx in the 1970s was one of my favorite bands. They played their last shows in March 1979 at the Cuckoo's Nest and The Whiskey. John Foxx went solo and the rest continued on with Midge Ure as the singer. Once Gary Numan and Human League had success as synth bands, John Foxx and Ultravox MK2 had more success and hits in the 1980s.

Wow, total respect for John Foxx to pull that off, I mean the band starts it way to fast for any human to sing those lyrics.

As I've said elsewhere, someone dropped a major b0llock letting this brilliant band slip through the net, they should've been huge. I love both versions of the band, but really...what happened? three utterly brilliant albums, systems of romance should have been a number one.

John Foxx (il refusait la célébrité) avait de la présence sur scène. Je trouve que le style musical ressemble au 1er album de Joe Jackson.

As much as I love them with Midge Ure, I'm more of a fan of the John Foxx Ultravox

I grew up with the Vienna/Ultravox which was a great song/ video and album.....But looking at this footage of original Ultravox! they were a great Rock N' Roll band and they were fantastic live in concert ...and not a synth in sight ...or sound. Pity John Foxx left ... They could have become heavyweights of the music scene in the 80s instead of succumbing to vacuous Pop.

John Foxx with occasional glimpses of some band backing him. I wonder what happened to them?

Does anyone know why this concert was filmed? It's awesome quality so professional equipment. But for what purpose? Not for a TV broadcast as far as I know.

Believe it or not this was filmed for German TV

'Vienna' is a good album, but Ultravox was not the same after John Foxx quit and left the band. After the 'Vienna' album, for me Ultravox went downhill. It was Billy Currie that brought Midge Ure in. So blame Billy for doing that. Please read my posted comment when you get a chance if you are interested.

Saw them at the Marquee with John Foxx when they were a brilliant band.

@@shirleykitts2984 You were very lucky to see them there. 1977/78 is when you saw them? Too bad they did not get the recognition that they deserved with John Foxx. Island Records dropped them after the release of their 3d album 'Systems of Romance'. Ultravox did their own finance to tour the US. They were well received by American audiences. But unfortunately John Foxx quit and left Ultravox around mid/late March of 1979. I saw them in concert early that month. And guitarist Robbin Simon left Ultravox right about the same time that John Foxx did.

@@undergroundwarrior70 yes, around then, was visiting friends in London but living in Northampton where all the punk bands came to play. Especially at the County Ground.
@barrygreenstein8383 Жыл бұрын
@@shirleykitts2984 Not sure that I would classify them as a punk band. When you listen to the debut album there is a lot of melodic tunes with very little punk edge.

The song is called Saturday Night in the City of the Dead, not Satday Night...
