Great tips! All I’d recommend is that if your looking for humidity for any of your plants I’d definitely invest in a humidifier! Although misting is extremely fun and some plants (air plants) do need it.... misting the leaves does not increase humidity!
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah! A humidifier would certainly help!! And yes I have heard that misting doesn't help but I'm still not sure. I've had humidity problems with plants before and then started misting and the problems went away so idk... Ima keep doing it but probably should invest in a humidifier eventually! Thanks for the great tips!

My satin pothos is growing beautifully BUT, some leaves continue to curl up, even when the soil is moist. I’ve waited until it dries out to water again, hoping that when I do, the leaves will uncurl, and although some do, many are still curly. What am I doing wrong?
@RyuuMakato42
@RyuuMakato42 4 жыл бұрын
I got one of these a week or two ago and watered it two days ago, but now the leaves are beginning to curl. Do I need to try and dry out the soil or should I just leave it? Also, would succulent soil work for this or should I go buy normal potting soil/houseplant soil? It’s in the nursery pot still, but I only have succulent soil handy.
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
If the leaves are beginning to curl it probably means it needs some more water. If it's warm where you are at the moment it may need extra water because it evaporates faster. Succulent soil should work, but you may have to water it more often since that is really fast draining. Best of luck!

I use distilled water and no matter how long I wait between waterings, the leaves turn yellow. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've noticed it's happening to all my houseplants. It's winter and I started using a grow light and watering less often. Any ideas?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm yellowing leaves is just something that happens in the winter time. I had a lot of yellowing (and eventually lost) leaves on my calathea, alocasia, and both my monsteras. It may be something that just happens. If you feel like too many are yellowing/dying you my need to reevaluate something you're doing, likely the watering schedule... but it's hard to know for certain what the issue is. I hope it gets better! Best of luck
@vivianabdulahad
@vivianabdulahad 3 жыл бұрын
I know this is really late, but distilled water is void of any minerals so your plants may be deficient. Filtered water I think is better for a lot of house plants.

I keep my satin pothos hanging on the window. I live in Denmark and we don't have so much sun here. So that works for me. But I'd like to know how much water do you put when you water it once a week? My pot is about the same size as yours.
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact measurement. I think I just water until it starts coming out the bottom. I then let it sit in the water that's drained a bit to soak up, and then empty it after like 30 mins or so!

Hi, this video is super helpful. I just bought one today and it's my first plant. It seems that the workers have already watered it but I'm concerned about the fact that the soil seems pretty compact, and their also seem sto be these greenish white balls above and in the soil... Should I change the soil and be concerned or leave it, is it normal ? And the leaves aren't that dark but is that just because it's small?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 3 жыл бұрын
Ahh that's super exciting! These are such lovely plants, especially for beginners! the green white balls are probably slow release fertiliser. You could repot into some lighter soil if you want but you may wanna leave it a little bit to acclimate to your home first! Best of luck!

@@GoodGrowing Hi again, sorry to bother. Now a few updates not necessarily good sadly. One of my leaves got burned as I left on my window when we got really hot weather, I thought it would be fine but obviously not, I cut that leaf off, and one other got slightly burned for now I've left cause I'm thinking it light go green again as it was a young leave and not that badly burned. Today I saw that one of my other young kevaes is turning yellow not sure why. I relazied soil was dry (been about a week since last water) and I herd you can wait for the kevaes to curl inwards and saw one was so I decided to water, but the water just sat on top, I scratched the soil and just sprayed the top for now, and then water is, bit sure if that's a good plan, my mom also suggested to poke holes in it? I also have been keeping it humid by spraying the leaves everyday (as some of the tips were trying brown) , not sure if that good? I know that's a lot of info I'm really hoping you can help 😊

I'm not sure what the problem is with my satin. It's leaves have curled in which I learned means it's getting too much light. (Leaves curl upwards if it's not getting enough water) But I've moved it around my home and to no avail it's not changing. It's putting out new leaves but eventually it all curls. I have many other potho varieties and have no issues with them.
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 3 жыл бұрын
hmm I've always known that leaves curling inwards means that it's thirsty. As long as it's not getting long hours of direct light, it shouldn't be too much. Might be worth keeping it in a bright indirect light spot and checking to see its getting enough water

Hey, can I ask your advice as my satin pothos has really started going downhill & I wanna save it before it’s too late, everything I’m doing seems to be in line with what you’re saying in the video so I’m not sure what to do...I’ve had him for about 1/2 years now & he’s usually easy to care for but I moved to London about 6 months ago & for some reason he’s not loving it. His leaves has started curling & slowly a lot of them have turned yellow, I have read this is usually due to under watering but I do water once a week, I’m also scared I’m over watering him because that’s a sign of yellowing leaves. Is there any specific plant food that they can’t tolerate? I don’t feed him that often probably every 6ish weeks & I use the “baby bio” original plant feed. I’m going to trim loads of him to give him the best fighting chance but I just don’t know what’s wrong with him, he’s by a lovely spot by the window with lots of light but no direct sunlight & it’s always pretty warm in my house 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sorry for the mega long post! 😂

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear your satin pothos isn't doing well! Without seeing the plant it sounds like it's being overwatered. I don't water mine once a week except probably in peak summer time. That would probably explain the yellowing leaves. I think baby bio should be okay though I haven't used it myself. Are you fertilising it throughout the year or only in spring and summer? Because they won't like being fed in the autumn and winter. Are there any signs of pests on the leaves that could be harming the plant? Check the tops and bottoms. Repotting also sounds like a good idea because you can check the roots for rot and pests. Sorry I couldn't really give a definitive answer but I hope you figure it out soon! Best of luck
@ashlinrose
@ashlinrose 4 жыл бұрын
Good Growing Thanks yeah it’s a tricky one, I do try to make sure he’s dried out before watering but it’s hard to tell sometimes! Hopefully repotting him will give me a better look at the roots so I can tell if there’s any root rot then I will know if I’m overwatering xx
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
@@ashlinrose I find it easiest to stick a moisture meter (or my finger) into the soil to see if its dry. If it's not then I don't water. Yes hopefully the roots will help you figure it all out! Best of luck!

My satin pothos is turning yellow. Is there anything I can do to help it?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately once leaves go yellow there is no reversing that. Is it a lot of leaves or just one or 2. If it's just a couple of older leaves that's nothing to worry about. If it's a lot it could be a sign of an issue like pests, or watering problems

I just got around 8 cuttings of my satin pothos from a shop on Etsy, and the roots were really quite long! I transplanted to soil and it’s been in for a week and the leaves are curling. It’s around warmth and it’s still damp from watering. Is my plant babies gonna die from shock 😭🥺
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 3 жыл бұрын
Amazing that's loads of cuttings! So the thing is with cuttings rooted in water, the roots they grow are slightly different to those that will grow in soil, so it is a bit of a shock transplanting. That's why it's important to keep the soil fairly wet for a little while at the beginning. Also curling leaves in these ones is a sign that they're thirsty. So I'd personally give it another drink! Best of luck!

@@GoodGrowing Its also better to underwater then to overwater, altho when i water i let it come out the bottom then empty sauzer, if met some plant guys that keep thinking over watering is based on amount not frequency, while its obviously other way around.

@@Arokhantos yeah I agree overwatering is worse! And it's totally important to empty out that runoff so you don't get root rot!
