Nice. Some pretty logs in that mix. Couple of uglies sprinkled in. 😆 Great video

Sheesh that chainsaw is HELLA SHARP!! 😆My late step-grandfather was the only one of my relatives who could file saw chain teeth that sharp! Sharp enough to where when purely cross-cutting, the saw would just SINK NATURALLY into the log from its own weight alone, no need to bear down on the loop handle at all! I reckon that one can do that as well after a fresh filing? ^^

I feel like this helps the log go through the mill more straight. Otherwise you could have one end tapering a bit as the bottom gets trimmed down. But I think it probably doesn’t matter a lot?

It still just goes through more proficiently! And some of them the flare does eat into the taper

At least you can get some free wood boiler chunks if you have an outdoor boiler. Butt log flairs are tough and multidirectional grained and usually caked in mud from being skidded. Nice video 👍

You may have saw a big one! It was just too covered in mud to poke my chainsaw into it😂

I have pressure washed too many logs, and sometimes it doesn't seem to matter, mud and pebbles get so deep in the crevices that you can't get them out. Love your videos and you saw configuration. I'm not in the lumber industry anymore but it's like a 1st love, you never can shake it no matter the passage of time. Keep up the good work.

Man that's a pain in the butt , with a contract my company had with a loger this was a major issue,specially for a certain chestnut species, they always had this kinda mushroom butt

depends. I would have rather been doing that today

Another really good video, have you done a video about checking for metal yet.

I will at some point. But tbh I haven’t hit metal in probably over 300,000 bdft

We used to take flair butts down with a Rosser same type of debarker u have but a lot heavier duty
@Helmsburgsawmill2 ай бұрын
I still enjoy using the de-barker to grind down knots and butts!!

Doesn't seem like that chain is cutting the best
@woodnewf38473 ай бұрын
It's cutting fine. Keep in mind he's not cross-cutting here. Plus the woodgrain in the butt flare is going all different directions.

You may notice the handful of sawdust I throw up towards the camera😂 some of those shavings were 4 inches long haha
