1. Define the target audience and their goals 2. Identify the emotions to evoke in your target audience 3. Define your brand image (how do you want people to perceive your brand? What associations do you want them to make?) - Brainstorm and research the keywords that represent the brand, the target audience, and the industry the business is in 4. Prioritise these keywords based on what you think your audience values the most 5. Choose typeface based on these keywords you’ve identified and the emotions you want to invoke in your audience 6. Choose colors based mostly on the emotions you want to invoke in your target audience, but also based on the keywords you identified earlier 7. Once you have your type(s), colors, a desired brand image, a defined target audience, and emotions you want to invoke in them, create your designs considering the emotions you want to invoke highly.

I love your interpretation of ING's logo, but I'm afraid it isn't true. The ING used to be a state-operated bank here in the Netherlands, when its name used to be "Rijkspostspaarbank" (Governmental post savings bank) or "Postbank". It privatised and became an internationally operating bank: "International Netherlands Group". The colour orange and the lion represent its Dutch roots.

Minimalism is not the key to design everything at its best....sometimes is not the right choise to comunicate with the target...I personally feel like it all has become so bland and unmemorable, with very very few ecceptions

I didn't suggest minimalism is the only way. Being memorable doesn't always equate to a minimal design. However, it has a lot of use cases in the modern world, hence why most brands have streipped away their logos over the decades. Logo design isn't art, and a brand identity isn't about being exciting or aesthetic pleasing.

yeah, the problem is exactly that...every brand with this "stripping down" approach has became the same, eventually losing not only character, charm and history, but most importantly memorability....but my point is about graphic design in general, not only logo and brand design, but packaging, posters and what not.
