@blackkey1976 lmao NPR a "leftist organization"? hahaahahahahahaha seriously...NPR is so painfully centrist its unbearable. They go so extraordinarily out of their way to ensure that they're always presenting "both sides" to every discussion that they often end up giving legitimacy to positions that are demonstrably absurd. Not to mention when it comes to foreign policy they tend to favor the position of the CIA and US imperialism in general. Like, its probably true that the listening audience of NPR is made up of more Democrats than Republicans, but NPR itself is hyper centrist (and the Democratic party isn't even a leftist party anyway, they're a centrist or center-left at best, while the Republican party is a solidly right-wing party).

Yes, Dana does a very funny character, but that's not what bothers me here. What bothers me is the way in which Dana's character is presented. Why is this an NPR sketch? The other NPR sketches- the Alec Baldwin one and the Betty White one- they have a kind of magic to them. They're presented as a radio show because what we hear happening if we close our eyes is entirely different from what we see onscreen. Words are given different meanings. When I watched this one, though, I saw just how empty and hollow it was. I watch it, and then I listen to it. Either way, it's the same thing: Just a weirdo being bugged by the neighborhood kids. Gordon Hoover could actually be a damn funny character, Dana Carvey's portrayal is hilarious. But the format is wrong. It shouldn't be an NPR sketch. There is no wordplay or gag. Just a guy who wants to turn his haunted house into a murder trap. That could be funny, really, it could, if, for instance, it was presented as a local commercial or something, where Gordon advertises his haunted house and talks about the buckets of feces propped up on the door. This is not an NPR sketch. There was no reason to make this an NPR sketch. Worst NPR sketch ever.

@@aesinam I don't ask for sexual puns- just puns of any sort. This sketch has no puns, just a funny Dana Carvey character. That's OK, but this shouldn't be called Delicious Dish. In a Delicious Dish sketch, I expect some kind of disconnect between what I hear and what I see. Worst one in the series, hands down.
@bencook-feltz7384
@bencook-feltz7384 5 жыл бұрын
@@videosforpeople8197 Yeah but, that's not what those Delicious Dish sketches were originally about. They were about mocking NPR, being unbelievably dull and finding humor through that. They'd been doing Delicious Dish skits for 2 years before the Schweddy Balls skit, which took the whole concept in a different, innuendo-filled direction. That was the first Delicious Dish skit that had that disconnect between what you heard and what you saw. I think it's remarkably restrained and great of them to have not just launched a series of sexual pun-themed Delicious Dish skits after the Alec Baldwin one - this one came around nearly two years later and the tone is more similar to the original ones. That Betty White skit was part of a big reunion of sorts, and was nothing but a pale callback to the Alec Baldwin episode.
