His intellectual prowess is undiminished. The heart suffered the insult -- too many cigarettes for too long -- but thankfully the cerebral cortex escaped unscathed. The two 'Aparnas' -- one real and the other fictional (Apur Sangsar) -- look ravishing in this video :)

It is a gem. I visit ray house on his birthday on 2.4.2024. Believe it or not shame atmosphere and shame environment still belongs there. Babuda and his family is so friendly and cooperative. Truly last international bengali.

To me ,much more than a film maker ,he is an author and a legendary one at that . His Feluda and tarini khuro are adventure stories cum detective tales also travelogues and his short stories are brilliant but his ultimate creation is professor shonku , unparalleled in world fiction !

He was such a genius and towering personality who followed his heart and did not get influenced by the typical Bollywood masala. Such an intellectual multifaceted person who was way way ahead of his times in his thinking and bringing out the message in his films. Wish he had lived longer. It took an international Oscar award to recognise his talent in his own country and by our own people.

মহারাজা.... মহারাজা তোমারে সেলাম, তোমার জন্য বাংলায় এসে ধন্য হলাম। এক যে ছিল রবি ঠাকুরের গান, বিদ্যাসাগর যেথায় করেছিল শুরু অক্ষরের সন্ধান, শরৎ বিভূতি তাতে বঙ্কিম হয়ে তারাশঙ্কর রাখলো অবদান, আর মহারাজা তুমি তাতে করলে জীবনদান। পরিচালক সম্রাট তোমারে সেলাম। গুপী বাঘা গেল হীরক দেশে, উদয়ন পন্ডিত সমাজ গড়ে শিক্ষকের বেশে। অপূ দুর্গা সরলতা মেখে, মগনলাল হেরে গেছে ফেলুদার মগজাস্ত্র দেখে। জটায়ু তো বইলেখা নিয়ে মেতে, তপসে টাও যে গোয়েন্দাগিরি তে মেতে। "অরণ্যের দিনরাত্রি" বন্ধুত্ত পায় নতুন ঠিকানা, "আগন্তুক" জানায় সভ্যতার ভয়ার্ত পরোয়ানা। "জন অরণ্য" গল্প শোনায় নতুন প্রতিষ্ঠানের, "প্রতিদ্বন্ধি" তুলে ধরে কষ্ট বেকারজীবনের। লেখক স্রষ্টা তোমারে সেলাম, তোমার জন্য বাংলা গল্পে নতুন চরিত্র পেলাম। তারিণীখুড়ো গল্প বলে ছোট বাচ্চাদের, ফেলুদা শায়েস্তা করে দুস্টু লোকেদের। শঙ্কু গবেষণায় মত্ত উশ্রী নদীর ধারে। বঙ্কু বাবু ভিনগ্রহী বন্ধু পেয়ে আনন্দে আত্মহারা। ক্লাসমেট যেন স্কুল জীবনে অনেকখানি জুড়ে, শিশুমন সাজায় মল্লানাসিরুদ্দিনের গল্প দিয়ে মুড়ে। ভুতের রাজার অমন শব্দ সৃষ্টি সহজে না হয়, বুদ্ধি দিয়ে বিশ্বজয়ের পথ দেখালে নিশ্চয়। মহারাজা প্রাণেররাজা তোমারে সেলাম, আজি শুভ জন্মদিনে তোমারে প্রণাম।।

He was a realist. If alive he would make a film on todays bengali intellectuals...who in modi s propaganda war do not feature in whatsapp forwards about bengal...we dont even expect anything from gujrati uneducated goons.....he would have made a satire on fascism at the centre 😊
