SAUCONY ENDORPHIN EDGE FULL REVIEW. After my first outing in the new Saucony Endorphin Edge I thought I'd actually found a carbon plated trail running shoe that worked for me! The clever plate design seemed to adjust to the changing trail conditions really well and I didn't feel it compromised the midsole performance by making it too stiff and rigid. Since our first impressions video I've put a good 50 miles into the Edge, including some pretty challenging training runs in the mountains of Chamonix. Testing has gone well but I have to be honest there have been a few issues along the way and at £200 a pair, they're expensive issues!
Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

I have a pair arriving tomorrow -despite reading between the lines on these reviews that seem to be all over the place, I couldn’t resist getting a pair to try out. I’m like a curious child who wants to stick a fork in the toaster anyway despite parents explaining why it’s a bad idea.

@seanwise7464 Жыл бұрын
@@jean-phil they are ok, good on dry smoother single track , gravel, but not my choice for anything technical or sloppy - grip is not super confident as I would like and the upper Fit has a more loose feeling overall regardless of lacing or sock type. Honestly more of a “meh” feeling for me after I’ve really put longer miles on them - They feel quick and fun, like the road endorphins but that fun feeling is diminished by constant fear of landing wrong on something in more rough terrain as they are not forgiving and seem to react quickly with a roll in comparison to other shoes. I have gone back to trying to determine between speed goats, caldera and now the north face enduris 2 as my new favorite no- worry, do it all trail shoe.

I love and respect such an honest rewind! I would like to see a long term review from you of the Inov-8 TrailFly Ultra G 300 Max. For me it had become a favorite and I now run two pair in parallel. But have noticed that the inside is starting to come apart on the older ones (after 500k). The rest of the shoe still performs perfect

Nice review Loyd, thanks! Your glowing review of the Xodus Ultra 2 last year had me giving Saucony a try (well first time since my high school baseball cleats - just a "few" decades ago ;) ) and I have to say you were spot on, love those shoes for the near perfect all-arounder they are, though they could use a tad more arch room (traded out the very thick insert to remedy). Speaking of my more competitive sporting days gone by, with the accumulated leg injuries, I've decided to give these Endorphin Edge carbons a try for the promised comfort and spring during the longer distance flat trail runs. My ankles aren't great, so I'll park them when I venture into more technical single track fun! 🍻

After about a month with these, have to say, they are scary. First of all they are very wide at the front, but very narrow at the heel. Bizarre. Every trail shoe I currently use (ASICS Trabuco Max 1, Trabuco 11, Trabuco Lite 2, Salomon Pulsar, Saucony Xodus Ultra 2) run at least a half size small, but these Endorphin Edges run larger than true, but feel even bigger because of the wide toe box. I have to premise by saying that I am under pronated, so with the narrow heel and soft cushion, these shoes roll over on me very easily. I’m almost afraid to walk with them in my hilly back yard, where I feel I have to focus declining for goodness sake. I can’t remember ever having an athletic shoe with such a heel platform, especially a running road or trail shoe? Icing on the cake, the upper material is so thin and pliable/flimsy, I’m getting little support from the material (like water shoes, dare I say I have thicker winter socks) to help compensate for the wideness. As much as I like the Xodus Ultra 2’s (after using thinner inserts for the low arch design), these Endorphin Edges are very disappointing to me. It’ll be the rare occasion I wear these, perhaps for walking or treadmill duty. Shame for this price point.

How many of us normal runners need all this stuff? I just read 'Born to Run' again and I think these shoes are injuries waiting to happen for most of us mere mortals. I still wear Ultra Glides, on my 2nd pair now. Soft, grippy, good fit, easy on the body, and stable. Probably clunky for elite racers, but for me...when I race 100 miles, at my age of 58...I need safely fast...and alot of speed walking. Grip and cushion, not a carbon plate! Ridiculous...IMHO. Enjoying the VLOGs Loyd.

Hi, I’m a recent subscriber and runner looking to make the transition from road marathons to trails. The content, reviews and advice are great and much appreciated sir! I’ve signed up for my first proper trail race next year, which is the North Downs Way 50 miler and was wondering what kind of shoe you would recommend for that sort of race, as I’m guessing the terrain won’t be v technical? Do you think something like the endorphin edge would work well, or even something a bit more basic like the Peg Trail 4? Any suggestions most welcome and thanks again!

I was tempted to buy a pair but I think I'd end up so worried about damaging them that I'd just keep them for races, a bit like I have with my Vaporfly. Given that I only race a few times a year that makes them a very expensive investment to just sit in a box in my garage. Perhaps I'll wait a while to see if durability is raised as an issue by others. Plus there seems to be lots of good deals on the Tecton X at the moment...

@TrailrunnerTroy
@TrailrunnerTroy Жыл бұрын
Runs lighter in my view. The Tectonic X is more stable on rocks and exposed stone, but for more buffed terrain the Hoka lacks pop and feels bottom-heavy. I really like the Edge; it rivals the Speedland PDX and I will use for my next 50-miler.

Had a pair for well over 100miles now and they have been greatly durable. My only issue is stability if I don't have the shoe on lockdown. Lots of other shoes like speegoats I'll wear a little looser for comfort but find these to be on the verge of an ankle roll if not pretty locked down. Overall enjoy the shoe, but I personally do not like the tread I find it slips in sand and greatly prefer the wider speedgoat style base especially if I'm tired. For stuff that isn't too steep downhill or too technical: these are great!

My honest review: Sole is too soft I twisted my ankle 3 times on one run, unless you use those on non technical trails, otherwise that’s not a good shoe at all. As you can see I have 8 Saucony I think those are quite bad.. sorry but am not happy at all to buy at a premium price and not getting value for money Reply from Saucony Canada: Our team has carefully read your review, and although it did not meet all of our website guidelines, we appreciate the thought and time that went into it.

@Run4Adventure
@Run4Adventure Жыл бұрын
It is a comfortable shoe Andrew and I definitely don't hate them, I never said that in the video! 🤔 It's not just midsole durability that's a problem on rocky trails, it's also stability! I found them unstable on more technical trails and it was quite easy to go over in your ankle, I mentioned it in the review. Surely a midsole getting badly damaged after one run on technical trails is pretty bad on a shoe that's so expensive? If I'd run 3 or 4 more runs in that kind of environment I wouldn't of had much midsole left! It really depends on where you run and what the trails are like, if they're less technical then the Endorphin Edge is ok 👍

It really depends on what type of trails you run in the winter Ben? I personally wouldn't use either of them in the winter! The Endorphin Edge lug is quite shallow and wouldn't work that well on mud. I'm a big advocate of the Saucony Endorphin Speed Road shoes (2 esp) but this shoe is poor, from the upper to the ride. The sizing for my narrow feet is over by at least a half and I did actually half size down in these, the upper is far too cavenous for a part of the shoe that should be snuggly attached to your foot and no matter how tight I pull the laces I can't get that ideal lockdown, certainly not one I can fully trust. As for the ride, I understand that they're meant to be stiff but I think they're too stiff, the ride isn't as bouncy as reported imo, in fact as I am stuck with them because I completed a muddy trail race in them I was so frustrated with the stiffness that i ended up bending them from heel to toe and I heard a pop so I think Ive snapped the plate - I did the same to the other side and got the same BUT in doing so they actually ride a lot a better now - not as stiff (PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR PAIR!) I'll keep them as a trainer for summer trails, they dont perform well in the cold/mud.
