Finally acquired the Xodus Ultra’s, and I must say after an 11.5 mile run in super muddy and rainy conditions, had it not been for the wind I could’ve ran 80 miles like you did right out of the box! Excellent shoe! Thanks for the info! I look forward to trying the 2’s!

First run in v1 today. Before my run, swapped out laces and I don’t prefer stretchy laces. I think for me that was the right decision and it was very stable and good lockdown. (Torrent 2 laces were used ) . So far so good on 6 mile outing in semi tech terrain.
@Thefifaplayeryant
@Thefifaplayeryant Жыл бұрын
I also changed the laces, but finding the middle ground between too tight and enough foothold (need to use the heel lock in most of my shoes) is Sometimes difficult. Apart from this, very good shoe, negative is that they run heavier than the actual weight might suggest and are borderline in technical terrain...midsole is great though

Love the Xodus Ultra and also have the Mafate Speed 4 and recently got the Peregrine 13. They are all great and are in constant rotation for the trails. I don't *NEED* the Xodus Ultra 2 but it seems I won't be able to resist when it becomes available in the US. Whenever it comes to trail shoes, Lloyd, it seems whatever you like works perfectly for me.

Are the Peregrines lighter and could you run a 50km mountain Ultra in them? My old Peregrines were too firm for roads and dry trails but best on technical. Thanks!
@alexkhan2000
@alexkhan2000 Жыл бұрын
@@ianwarner1429 Yes, the Peregrine 13 is noticeably lighter and more nimble than the Ultra. I have two pairs of the Ultra and they are around 9.6~9.7 ounces (273g) in my size 8 US and the Peregrine 13 is 254g. Not a huge difference but noticeable. I haven't tried the previous Peregrine models but the cushioning on the 13 is pretty good. I've never run 50km distances so I can't say whether the 13 would be good for that. To me, it's not as comfy underfoot as the Ultras but the Peregrine 13 is faster and more nimble for sure.

Thanks for the review! You turned me onto the original Ultra, and it's my favorite trail shoe of all time, so I was excited to give the v2 a go. The only complaint I had with the original was the upper/laces would loosen up while running. So I was excited to give the v2 a go since they addressed that. Unfortunately, the new upper material for me is not durable.. at all. After 100 miles of trail use, I already have upper tearing/holes along the inside knuckle area of the shoe where it bends. Pretty bummed, because I love the way this v2 runs and feels. The upper durability is a huge step down from the original for me. Have you noticed any durability issues since this review?

I've put 50 tough rocky miles in the Ultra 2, I've already purchased a second pair. Only issues is with the tongue is on the thin side and shoe strings seem to stretch just enough I have to stop and sung the laces down. Overall, a great shoe. Will be on my feet for my first 25k UROC in VA.

Again thank you so much Loyd for a super review! Based on your videos I am really between the Metafe and Xodus. Do you have any reflections on the differences and use cases? My use case is Northern European climate (wet, but not rocky), not super hilly or steep and distances around 8-20km with 1km road transport to and from. I’ve never tried Hoka but use saucony and Nike usually.

Sounds like Sacouny Xodus and Nike Zagama both took their race foam and used it as the core for the mid sole. Then surrounded it with their proprietary foam to give it a solid feel. Sounds like we might have a head to head coming up? 🙏🤙🏽

Hey Lloyd! Great review. The Xodus Ultra has been an awesome shoe to run in (I have the black RUNSHIELD version) and it got me through Autumn and winter (and beyond). Still some gas left in it's tank but I'm certainly looking to pick up another pair or possibly the 2's considering they've done the shoe right and left a lot of it untouched! Still not certain on the colour ways, I feel like the Peregrine 13 got a bit more love in the visual department but hey ho. The 2's are certainly looking a bit more interesting. Any NNormal Kjerag/Tomir or Arcteryx Norvan LD3 reviews on the horizon? I'm intrigued by both! Keep up the good work.

Kjerag and Tomir are great shoes. Very different but my legs and feet have responded well to both. The only thing I’m concerned with is when it warms up how they’ll do on the breathing side of things. Both require some breaking in tho IMO. The kjerag does extremely well in tech trail…. Crazy good considering on thin the midsole is.

I run 15-20km to work (depending upon which route I take) and the route is a roughly 50/50 mix of trail (quite muddy at times) and roads. Any thoughts on how the shoe might hold up? I mostly run in Hoka Torrents and find that on the roads that they could use a bit more cushioning. But, I am happy that the lugs are holding up well on the hard surfaces. So, I would like to find some shoes with more cushioning.

Thanks for the review! Currently doing most of my running in the original xodus ultra; no issues with comfort/performance. Durability, however, has been a bit disappointing. Contrary to your experience my outsoles are holding up fine but the upper has split on the flex point after ~600km. Are my expectations just too high? I'm hoping it's not that my feet just don't suit Saucony shoes as I love the grip and performance. Same thing happened to my peregrine 10s, but the 11s we're nigh on indestructible. Has the toe box space compared to v1?

How does the size 9,5 compare to Hoka 43 /1/3?
@Run4Adventure
@Run4Adventure Жыл бұрын
That's tricky to say Matti because euro sizing can be very different between the brands. What's the UK size on your Hokas? I've got a UK 9.5 in the Xodus Ultra 2 and a UK 9.5 in the Hoka Mafate Speed 4's and I'd say the Hoka shoe is slightly smaller but it's only very slight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍😊 Loyd

Right, sorry for not being presice here... In fact my Hoka Mach 4 are UK 9. While testing Ultra I felt UK 8,5 is even longer on toes. I feel too snugg in Ultra UK 8, even the length would be enough. Heel lock is anyhow very good in Ultra UK 8,5 so maybe I shouldn't be too afraid of looong shoe 😂 Edit. It's a bit confusing though. Saucony xodus Ultra 2 US 9,5 stands UK 8,5. Whereas Hoka Mach 4 says US 9,5 but UK 9. Both say 27,5cm.

Arrived today. The are the same as the 1s but different. Defiantly feel a little more dialled in on the tongue/laces and a lower profile in the ankle coller and i reckon a smidge bigger in both length and the toe box area.

Hi Loyd. I'm so in doubt in buying version 1 or 2... 😢. Il you have to choose between them, which you would pick? I've watch your video about them but I was not able to understand (surely for my knowledge of english) if the second is better or not. Same size or size up if version 2? Please help me. It would be so appreciated. 😊 Thanks a lot in advance. All the best

I'd go for the original Xodus Ultras. You should be able to pick them up for a great price now and it's a brilliant trail running shoe 👌 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏 Loyd

Great shoe, except for one thing if you run in the dessert the lugs start breaking off after after a half dozen runs. Other than that I love the shoe. Disappointed.

Unfortunately the desert is a pretty harsh environment and I think a lot of running shoes would struggle there? When ever you watch any videos featuring races like the MDS, runners are struggling with their shoes falling a part Brett 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏

Those trailshoes are never durable. Took the exodus trekking in Nepal and after Annapurna Circuit it was ready for retirement. 3/10

To be fair, the Xodus Ultra is a trail running shoe and not a trekking shoe Christian. I should imagine the Annapurna circuit is pretty rocky and technical underfoot, maybe a walking shoe would have been better 🤔
