I was there as an amateur biologist and I feel so sorry for the unique biotop. All the rare flora and fauna living only on some places of the island. The whole place looks so alien and was so far from our civilisation. It's a catatrophe. Whole Yemen has a lot of unique species, but no place is so beautiful with such inhospitable alien look. So ancient and so isolated. It's like Yemenese Tasmania.

@@zagorcuk1966 Both has beautiful dominant Dracaenas and some other groups. Both are isolated islands, but Madagaskar was changed almost everywhere in very drastic ways by our longterm presence. We called it back then Kingdom of Sheba, because it's in the area between Arab peninsula and Africa where half-mythical Sheba and trademark Punt were maybe somewhere situated. King Solomon, Sheba and their son Menelik certainly flew over Socotra on Solomon's magical supercarpet, that was given to him by beings from the Four books of Lemegeton, maybe Goetia. At least we were telling in our stories to each other next to a bonfire when eating for too long cooked fish meat, that had many tasty bones. You can find something from as far as Iran or West Africa in unique mutation. It has fauna and flora from the times the sea was lower, Socotra was giant piece of land and all the deserts were green, some of them were forests and so there is similar fauna in South, Southeast Asia and the end of Sahara in the South. But if Madagaskar have stayed untouched for as long time as Socotra,, we would have much stranger and so much wider range of unique and crazy fauna and flora. We don't know for certain the whole fauna and flora od Madagaskar since it was torn away from Africa up to first extinction and change to the major ones. It's good analogue when it was found by the Europeans, but before they changed Madagaskar into how it looks, smells, tastes and feels now - some shifts more towards Socotra like biotopes, greatly observed! It's really large place and imagine the times of the rule of the Giant Superbirds.

It is misleading to describe the Yemen War as a civil conflict. It is a proxy war, part of the region wide Sunni-Shia sectarian conflict which includes the war in Syria and the activities of extremist Sunni Salafist/Jihadist groups like IS, (actually built by Qatar and Saudi), in Iraq, Syria and other places. Primarily it is Saudi + its allies versus Iran, with Qatar playing a mysterious role on the edges. This whole breakdown of peace across the Middle East results directly from the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the US. When the US removed Saddam's Sunni military dictatorship in Iraq, and installed parliamentary democracy, the 60% Shia population meant the creation of a Tehran-Baghdad-Damascus axis, greatly boosting Iran's influence in the region. This was a complete backfiring of US policy and the opposite of what they hoped to achieve. No doubt the neocons in Washington thought they would install permanent military bases in Iraq from which they would militarily dominate the whole region and take out their enemies Syria and Iran. This plan collapsed in 2006 when the US army got tired of paying the human price for these imperial ambitions. The unprecedented, and greatly downplayed, "Generals' Revolt" took place with Rumsfeld being openly called incompetent and negligent, and being driven out of office. The result was the draw down of the bulk of US forces in Iraq. The Qataris and Saudis meanwhile had been building organisations like AQI, and other Sunni militias and IS to destabilise and weaken Shia, pro-Iran Baghdad, and did what they could to 1) oppose Iranian influence inside Iraq 2) Try to draw the US into a permanent military presence in the region, and, they no doubt hoped a war against Iran. Failing a war against Iran, they colluded with the US in the efforts to overthrow Assad.

Not only that, but also the UAE is exploiting Socotra's natural resources, as rare Dragon blood trees were seen transported in Abu Dhabi's port. Apart from their presence in Yemen's islands, UAE's presence in eastern parts of Yemen is overwhelming too. Especially on the costal areas, it became normal to find UAE plate-numbered SUVs around, at least when I visited the country on July 2021. As a Yemeni I'm Really grateful to you for Shedding the light to such an overlooked situation. Great job!

The new animation style is pretty good, though it has some rough spots. I find the shipping lanes being characterized as flies is a bit odd. It would work without the sound effects. In fact, I would say the video could overall use less sound effects in general. I realize you're probably using new software that automatically adds sounds and such, so perhaps it's difficult to get it to do exactly what you want. Just some feedback. Your reporting style and research is top-notch as always. I love watching your videos Shirvan. You do terrific work.

I’m a huge fan of your channel, so I feel obligated to echo what others have said about the new presentation. The graphics look great but the sound effects (zooms, line draws, mouse and keyboard clicks, distorted scene change noise, soldiers marching) take away from the overall presentation in my opinion. I just appreciate the professional style of the presentation you’ve used in the past, and while I appreciate your desire to update that presentation, I would try to remain closer to the style that made us all love the channel so much. It’s that understated, professional presentation that drives home the depth of your video. Thank you for the great information you provide. I recommend your channel to friends every chance I get

4:50 You're using the wrong person to represent the UAE here. That is Mohammad bin Rashid al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The technically correct ruler of the UAE should be the ruler of Abu Dhabi, Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan. That said, the real actual ruler of the UAE is Mohammad bin Zayed al Nahyan (the younger half brother of Sheikh Khalifa).

Shirvan, I've been following your channel for almost 3 years now. Your content is, as always, impeccably researched and presented without bias, which is rare. The new production glitz with the sound and visual effects, however, is at risk of distracting from the underlying content. Hi Shirvan. Great video! I like the new animations. I assume you have a new hire? I really like it, but in my opinion they can tone down a bit of the sound effects. Adding chirping birds to a desert island, typing sounds, epic violin plays and photo shutter sounds every time a new frame comes in the video is a bit overdoing it and distracting to your voice over. Just my two cents as a long time viewer.
