This is a playthrough using King Leo / Shin Shishioh in the Arcade version of Savage Reign. Read on below for more information...
King Leo is the final boss of the game. He is a non-selectable character in the Arcade MVS version of it.
===== ABOUT KING LEO =====
King Leo, or The Real King Lion, is a legendary fighter who became bored of the fighting circuit and quietly disappeared from the scene. When he returned to the public, he decided to host and sponsor a tournament called the Battle of the Beast God in order to prove his own strength to worthy opponents.
For the tournament, he has implemented an "imposter" version of himself named King Lion for the purpose of testing out his challengers to see if they are worthy enough to face him.
King Leo was unstoppable until he was defeated by Hayate, and later by Jyazu.
===== GAMEPLAY =====
His story is pretty cheesy (in the good way of course)... but we all know that it's an excuse to have a more powerful version of an existing regular character to be implemented as a final boss character so that they didn't have to create an entire new character. =)
Anyway... he is basically the more powerful version of King Lion / Shishioh with a different colour palette. He has slightly better versions Lion's special moves, as well as three additional unique moves to himself, as follows:
---- The Hunter Killer special move where he thrusts forward with a flying kick, which another kick is added on if it connects unblocked. It's overpowered and has no recovery time if blocked, and is probably his best move.
---- The Thunder God Breath special move where he throws out three electric projectiles/swords. This can also fly to opponents on the other planes. The move comes out fast and is definitely one of his best moves.
---- The King Upper desperation move, which is an upwards version of the King Straight. If it hits (unblocked) it inflicts massive damage, but the command motion required to do it (it's Half-Circle-Back, F, B, F + [K]) makes this very awkward to pull of at the right time.
===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / TRIVIA =====
---- His voice is different to King Lion's. He has a distinct English accent when shouting his special/super move names, while Lion has a "Japanese accent" when doing the same.
---- His basic Heavy strikes emit electricity and shocks the opponent if it hits (unblocked), something that Lion does not have.
---- On the character select screen, when he is highlighted he appears perfectly, but on the map screen he often appears "out of position".
---- On the map versus screen, he has no "pose" animation so it does not progress on it's own. You need to skip it manually to progress.
---- He uses King Lion's dialogues when he talks with the opponents on the map/versus screens.
---- In the pre-fight dialogue before you fight King Leo, it does not use the same dialogue as if you used King Lion.
---- Despite being an unplayable in this version of the game, he has an alternate colour palette. This is expected though because he is legitimately playable on the AES home version of the game.
---- When using him in single-player mode, after defeating King Lion there are some minor text glitches for his dialogue.
---- When using him in single-player mode, after defeating King Lion, you are the one who appears for the King Leo entrance cut-scene instead of the CPU! (when he appears in the background and jumps towards you into the fight)
---- If you beat the game with him he uses King Lion's ending.
---- When you Continue or beat the game with him, you can actually get the hints/tips screens for his move commands. It's probably because he is "built" on top of regular King Lion.
---- Both Lion and Leo make an appearance in NeoGeo Battle Coliseum.
---- He makes a cameo appearance in KOF: Maximum Impact 2.
===== ABOUT SAVAGE REIGN =====
As a 2D fighting game, Savage Reign's most unique feature is the ability to jump into and fight on different planes, and also interact with certain objects (whilst in the background planes) depending on the stage you are on. This feature is more advanced than the Fatal Fury plane system, and uses some impressive (for the time) graphical techniques to achieve it.
