I was on TDY trip to Savannah years ago. I've never driven across a bridge that made me feel so scared. It's so high up, steep, and difficult to see the end of. I had to keep reminding myself to stay calm and realize that all I had to do was keep the truck straight and it would all be over soon.

I'll never forget this bridge when I went to Savannah about 15 years ago with my mom. We came from the north into town and from that approach the first thing you see is the bridge towers looming in the distance. But I had never seen a bridge like this one before and I remember thinking "What the hell is THAT?" when the towers began to appear on the horizon. I couldn't figure out what that enormous and bizarre structure was sited so close to the road, and then as I got closer I realized it was PART of the road! Then I said to my mom "Whoa, look at that bridge!". And she said "Oh NO! Did we have to come THIS way?!?! I told her I was just following the map... I remember thinking wow, what a weird and freaky looking bridge! I thought it was neat to drive across it, but obviously my mom didn't think so. I wanted to go back and drive over it again, but luckily for my mom we were headed to Florida after our stay in Savannah so we did not go back across it. I was disappointed I didn't get to do that.

Back in the early 1970s, the drive northbound to that bridge was straight until just before you'd reach the base. The road would veer to the left, (concrete abutment direct ahead) & then you'd start the steep climb straight ahead again over the bridge. Sometimes at night, it was foggy when we started the ascent & it was quiet, (no traffic), and definitely eerie.

I had a panic attack driving over this bridge with my cousin back in 2006 or 07. I made them drive back over while I was down in the floor board. It didn't help I could still tell what was happening and when we were going straight up again! It was like taking off for the moon! Awful!

The barriers look really short! I think I'll pass.

It's a nice bridge. I didn't think in a car that I was high enough to really see over the barriers to get too much of a sense of how high I actually was or really to pay attention. Is that guy starting at 1:45 jogging in the south bound lane or running for his life because he got a flat? Nothing like a healthy jog down an exhaust fumed highway with nowhere to escape when surely there is at least a small percentage of drivers white knuckling it across that entire span. He's surely breaking the law but at least he's going against the flow so he can see head on when some dip sh*t trying to take a selfie swerves into the shoulder and punts him off into the Savannah River.

False , Charleston is over 100 miles from Savannah, this bridge goes from Sav to SC but a rural low country part. You can access Hilton Head via the bridge though.

This bridge takes you from downtown savannah over into backroads of Hardeeville SC. From there you can head to Charleston, Beaufort, Hilton Head etc.

This bridge is pretty old now, about 33 years old. Charleston is 2 hours and a few minutes from Savannah. This bridge leads into rural SC and Hardeville.
