Just a quick update as we are busy in preparations for Kefaye's upcoming 6th birthday this week!
Kefaye's symptoms continue to improve with radiation. While the cumulative side-effects are getting stronger (nausea, some hair loss), Kefaye is growing stronger overall every day, both physically and in spirit.
With only 2 weeks left of radiation, we are busy trying to figure out the plan for June and July. The next MRI will be in mid-July. In the meantime, we continue to collect information about all the clinical trials that she might be eligible for.
But most important is Birthday Week! On her actual birthday, which is Wednesday, she asked to go to the Slime Factory with her best friend. In the evening, we are surprising her with an ice-cream truck that will come to the neighborhood playground. Then a big magic-themed party at our house on Saturday!
The ice-cream truck is the same that used to come to her preschool. When she was in the ICU, she asked for an ice cream bar that came specifically from this truck. The preschool connected us to the company who generously gave her a bunch of her favorite popsicles and agreed to come here for her birthday. A big thanks to Ice Cream Express Washington, KinderCare, and my brother Uncle Ori who made it all happen.
In fact the ice cream saga went deeper than just tracking down the truck. Our dear friend Venkat visited Kefaye every day when she was in the ICU, and attempted to bring ice cream flavors that Kefaye was asking for each day. The ice creams were delivered to the hospital with urgency every day, and they were all rejected by Kefaye. At the time she was recovering from the biopsy, weak and having trouble speaking. But she eventually told us about the ice cream truck, so we are very happy to bring it to her for her birthday.
A very nice moment last week when we walked past a used bike store in Seattle after radiation. Kefaye saw a beautiful pink bike that she loved. We got her the bike and a helmet and she immediately started riding, the first time she's been back on any bike since diagnosis.
Thanks to everyone for the love being sent our way. We are stronger than ever, and Kefaye continues to show us the way of True Love.
Here is a video with a few clips from the past week.
