I believe Snyder categorises Fargo (1996) as a whydunit. The why is there early on, though.

Feels more like Golden Fleece (Heist subgenre), because it's the working class family trying to obtain wealth without working for it, but it falls apart and they lose everything.

Hi Allen, great video. Love Save the Cat stuff =) You explained some things better than even Snyder! Haha. Question, I want to make a low budget comic book short (Batman). How do you suggest that I find actors and DP. I live in the Bay Area so not sure how many film institutions are around here. Also, do you suggest posting shorts on KZfaq to get the most exposure? Or are there any other alternative methods?

Hey Vaillen, Much appreciated! Finding actors can be done by visiting local theatre companies, taking acting classes, and building your connections there. Post an advertisement on Backstage, Casting Network, Actors Access, etc. so it depends if you need it done for free or if you have an actor budget. A free DP, let's say you went to film school and developed relationships with your fellow cohorts. Sharing your work and going from there. Also, contact your local film office and you should be able to find a list of the top DP's in your area. Share your work with them get them excited to work with you and discuss how this can be a mutually beneficial project. The issue is truthfully the best of the best require payment. Do these “types” ever cross contaminate each other? Can a film be “dude with a problem” + “rites of passage” I typed too fast.. 6min you answered me.

According to "Save the Cat Goes to the Indies" (it's STC Goes to the Movies, only it covers independent films, foreign films, films by auteur directors [i.e., Stanley Kubrick, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino, etc], low-budget sleeper hits, critically bashed or forgotten films that are now considered cult classics, etc), you can mix genres, but, at the end of the day, it's going to be identified as one genre.
