What’s the movie Save the Last Dance about?
Discover the story of Sara Johnson (Julia Stiles) whose life is turned upside down the day she has to move to a troubled district of Chicago after the tragic death of her mom in a car accident. She arrives in her new school in an entirely different kind of neighbourhood than the one she used to live in and must now learn to adapt to the place’s culture. Ex-ballerina student, Sara now has to learn hip hop in order to fit in. Luckily, she’ll receive help from Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas), a talented and smart young boy from her school and his sister Chenille (Kerry Washington). Derek and Sara will gradually fall in love but their difference of skin color and social background won’t be well accepted by their peers, requiring them to stay strong and brave in the face of adversity.

Remember she did the ballet piece first then this was her freestyle piece, yes it could’ve had more ballet moves but this was her chance to do whatever she wanted. Still cute ☺️

This is my favorite part of the movie. The music is cool the dance is hot. I love that she really leans on him and trusts him in this scene. I don't know if there are relationships out there like this or not. Television makes a fantasy out of everything so who knows? I really do hope there are.

It’s really easy to tell from these comments who has any actual dance/performance experience vs the people who really just enjoy the movie. Which is totally fine! It’s supposed to be about the story. (But that really was a terrible dance…)

This is a freestyle. She had already done the ballet portion. This was a freestyle piece to show other talents, so she did a mix of hip hop, ballet, jazz, and pointe.

She wasn’t very convincing as a hip hop dancer. Ballet she done ok in but I feel this movie is over rated. Could have found someone else that was more convincing for both styles.

Just be quiet and stop being a hater. This movie was one of the first interracial dance movies out there, which opened up tons of opportunities for movies like this genre in the future. It wouldn’t make sense for her to be extremely experienced at Hip Hip dancing since she learned it a few months before the audition. She’s supposed to be more experienced at ballet, so your logic doesn’t make any sense.

She is not at a hiphop contest. She is integrating modern dance styles into classical dance, as it is appropriate for a audition at juliard.
