Hey Just Justin, you may already know this, here 's the best technique for putting ski's on on steeper terrain. Place both skis on snow, not wedged in, just flat to slope surface. Stand with both feet below ski's, lift DH leg over uphill leg and place it in to the DH ski. Weight bear on that ski, lift other leg up and insert in uphill ski. Doing it this way aligns the base of the boot with the slope and removes the need to try and wedge the ski in to the snow. It is super easy and much safer than trying to push in to a ski that is wedged, often in a way that wont support the down force one is trying to apply. Cheers and we skied Big Sky this year and used all your vid's to guide us around. Lucky you living there....

I would like to add to Perry’s suggestion without being critical. Skied there for a number of years as well as countless backcountry lines and found in steep terrain where losing a ski could be a bad scene that driving the tails in the hill at an upward angle makes for stepping in much easier from a leverage standpoint particularly with certain bindings and higher DIN settings. Also has the advantage of a secured ski that won’t role into the abyss. Definitely works when there is deeper snowpack to support driving the tails in. Hope this helps and keep up the good work friend😊

Earlier this week, had a scary slip into the Obsidian chute when the snow underneath me gave away and I slid at freefall speed. I went off a small cliff and was airborne for a good 2-3 seconds before I was tossed around like a rag doll. Helmet saved my life for sure and miraculously no cervical whiplash. A Guardian Angel came to my rescue, collected my lost ski, and ensured I made it down safely. God was on my side for sure.

Good Job! That skier should not have been there! His skiing after rescue showed that. Headwaters is marked "Expert Skiers Only" for a reason. The first section is the worst with rocks and tight turns all over the place.

Good question. I’ll say what I would have suggested. 1. Stop and wait for someone with 2 skis on to ski down and get it for him 2. Leave one ski on and try to sidestep/ one ski down (If possible) 3. Climbed down like a latter with you ski holding an edge for you his hands. This is sketchy tho.

@Justinmtbiking I had to do option 2 when I was there a few weeks back and one of my skis fell about 20 feet down the face and luckily got caught on a rock and a pole that ski patrol had installed. Side stepped/ slid on one ski down to the other one... around the 45 second mark of this time lapse if interested: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9JljbioxMypYok.html... cheers to you for helping this dude. I was able to help myself but it was definitely scary up on that ridge. Good job going to him cause if he tried to slide down to that ski he wouldn't have stopped at the ski!

OMG, thank you! Was considering a similar reply. I've skied that run several times, it's steep for sure, and you can tell the snow is a bit sketch, "slide for life" conditions, but it wasn't exactly a life saving rescue, lol. I mean, it was super cool to retrieve the ski, and especially to hike back up, but it felt like our lord and savior was a little quick to dim the lights and activate drama mode. But heh, I guess if you're a hammer, then everything looks like a nail!!

Saved that person? No u didn’t save that person. You helped them. I ran a ski shop for years and fixed many mis adjusted bindings on the hill. It happens. All of this was a bunch of fluff. It was good of you to help someone. Keep it at that.

An incorrectly set binding is what it is, but when you are about to push yourself down a 1400 vertical line and rolling into rocks on the way down to possibly your death or severely injured, it becomes a different story
