I liked the bubble unwrapping and seeing that new MPU Board. Very nice job with the painting on the gameboard. I do confess that as an owner of two gameboy advance sp(s) the many games under the display glass are eye candy! But I digress. "A big freakin/friggin mess." That's funny since you eventually get it fixed.

For vintage tech, I just use IPA at 91% & 50% wintergreen. Just recently I worked on a original NES cartridge, Mega Man 2, used a soft pencil eraser on the contact pads and it worked wonderful after cleaning it with IPA the cartridge worked immediately after a cleaning.

You know, I remember actually playing this game at a KOA Kampground near Broken Bow, Oklahoma, probably in 1978 or 1979. At the time they had a pretty large arcade (mostly pinball) that took dimes instead of quarters. It's no surprise that the playfield takes a battering. Doesn't matter how tough the paint is, you've got steel balls rolling around the table. Eventually that's gonna take a toll, even if it takes decades.

How was the clearcoat done? Was it just a light spay or did you put multiple coats, did you sand in between coats? It looks like your method is good and didn’t take long.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 4 жыл бұрын
We do it quick, usually a medium coat with a spray can keeping a wet edge, then let it dry. Next day wax it up nice, and you're off to the races. It's not like glass or anything, we're just using it as a protectant and trying to keep the playfield looking similar to how they used to look.... we don't sand it, you end up with a playfield that has imperfections but we started with one that was completely destroyed so we're happy with it considering the time spent! Thanks for watching!

Really interesting so far, is it mostly restoring more then modernizing a bit on the channel ? (Just subscribed earlier here.) Like say changing the lights too warm white or yellow led's for less powerdraw & similar ? Would there be kits/lampboards made for that ? Like an additional small pcb of resistors that mounts into the machine and just sends the same signals at a lower current & voltage ?
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade 5 жыл бұрын
Yes we mainly try to make them similar to how they were originally, sometimes we'll upgrade a little bit of stuff. I dont' usually do LED's because I don't really like the way they look on the older games like this, which is mainly all we get in.

It wouldn't save any time, because you'd still have to mix it by hand. You could order the paint by color code after you scanned it, but that would be more expensive and would take time waiting or traveling to get the paint....

Damn, I poked a few dozen coins into that baby in my days. We've really ruined a lot of nostalgic moments by letting pinball machines deteriorate. The ones they make today are total ripoffs with too many lights. Half the time the machines are not level, have parts that don't work properly, and you have to stand on your head just to get a free game. I loved the analog machines a hundred times more than the digital pieces of shit. I owned a few machines in my day, a Gottlieb "Volley", and a Bally "Trail Drive"...one of my other analog machines was a William's "Star Pool".
