"Saving Mr. Banks" will be released in UK cinemas nationwide on November 29th, 2013.
When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins," he made them a promise-one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney's plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn't budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.
Inspired by true events, "Saving Mr. Banks" is the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen-and the testy relationship that the legendary Walt Disney had with author P.L. Travers that almost derailed it.
"Saving Mr. Banks" is directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Christine Langan, Andrew Mason and Troy Lum.

I highly recommend that everyone go see this movie. It was even better than I thought it would be. I was expecting a cute movie, certainly an enjoyable movie, but not something that brought me to tears and made me feel so profoundly. You can feel everything she and her father are going through as if you're the characters themselves. Very well done.

I loved this movie! I cry every time I watch it. Walt Disney holds a special place in my heart. He is there when I need to laugh, when I need to sing and dance, and even when I need to cry. To see him portrayed on the big screen was like a chance to see a glimpse into his life, into his world. The movie is stunning and the music is phenomenal. I really felt that I had actually met Mrs. Travers in person rather than through a screen. What amazed me about this movie was that, here are two giants in the entertainment industry, and the forces that drove them were a nanny and a mouse.

I saw Saving Mr. Banks last weekend and I was profoundly moved by it. I have been raving to friends and family all week. I knew from the trailer and the fact that it starred the brilliant Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks that it was going to be a good movie. This film exceeded every expectation I had and went straight to my soul. I cried for at least half the film and I am not exaggerating a bit. If Saving Mr. Banks doesn't get at least one Oscar nod, it will be an absolute disgrace. One of the best films I have ever seen.

This was an excellent movie and I found it in many ways very healing. It made me cry because in some ways it helped me to remember all the happy times I had with my own Father whom I lost to cancer 1 year ago.

I will always admire Walt Disney. He had the ability of making, not only children happy, but adults also, taking out our inner child. Even though his first movies were sad, and I cried a lot as a child while I watched them, they had a lot of reallity, for example, the death of Bambi´s mother, represent the many many deers that are killed and leave poor breed alone. Even though I always loved Disney and I actually felt the magic when I went to Walt Disney World at my 34 years old that time. You can say whatever, but I am happy Disney could achieve a Mary Poppings movie for children, and mixed with cartoons, I wish he was the creator of Mary Poppins, so that he could do whatever he wanted to do with the character. It looks good! There are so many inspiring stories behind the projects of Disney that I've seen in documentaries or books, it's nice to see one told in a movie format. I love how gold the movie looks.

I saw this yesterday and the story line is heart breaking about how P L Travers lived and when I saw her crying at the end when the song Lets Go Fly a Kite that just set me off too :,( It's a great film and I recommend it too anyone who is interested in Mary Poppins like me and I have ever since I was 3 and I'm 13 now :)

Seriously,MIT was a wonderful film. It was one of those movies in which you can feel every emotion yourself. It's almost as if you are part of the story

they put the park very crowded...I have seen in pictures and our old pictures it was never like it is today. But other than that I have my box of tissues ready for the 20th!

"It was an honest portrayal of Walt" Well, yeah. But short of being driven, determined and a chain smoker, what part of Mr Disney does not live up to the wonderful guy we imagine? If this is the honest portrayal, sign me up to go back in time to spend some time with him.
