Saving Russia's brick slaves: 'We're taking them home' | Modern Day Slavery

Thousands of Russia’s most vulnerable men and women go missing every year. They are plucked from cities and towns and driven hundreds of miles to the remote republic of Dagestan, where they are enslaved in rural brick factories and farms. Alexei and Zukiya, two anti-slavery activists working for Alternativa, an NGO, are often their only chance of escape.

За рабовладение нужно наказывать не только рабовладельцев, но и всех соседей и всех кто знал но не донес - за соучастие. Максимально жестоко.

@MrKydaman I agree, it's a government task to fight such crimes and the expertise of such people as the two would certainly be very valuable in tackling this problem. It's a shame that the state is doing so little to protect its own citizens, although this problem is not new and is well known in Russia.

You can hear about bad things on _Internal_ channels like "Россия 24", "НТВ" etc; even gowernment's channel "Первый канал". Actually there is even spetial opposition liberal cannels like "Дождь". Russia is a little more complicated than you think. It is not classical dictatorship, it's imitation democracy. It's authoritarian regime which is trying to look democratic (and it's actually kind of. because it's supported by most of people, which is understandable after chaos of 90s)

It should be told like it is, Uzbekistan is a not a place someone would want to be born in. You have one of the worst and corrupt government in the world, your people are mostly poor and uneducated. Your people have to travel to Russia and Kazakhstan to do low-skill job to survive. I don't care about your patriotic feelings. A patriot of a country with a corrupt government is either 1) a hypocrite, who thrives on the corrupt government or 2) dumb. Most are dumb. Neither deserves respect.

Great job. Thank You a lot for the support. The problem of human trafficking in Russia is rather out of the public attention and all efforts of this kind are twice more valuable. Russia is still haven't signed international documents in this field, we have a sustainable practice of using an extremely underpaid labour force from the middle Asia and usage of young women from the former USSR republics. Thanks again, all must be investigated. There are also several additional moments. There is no option for me to share the video on my Facebook page due to the danger of possible actions of "interested" (predominantly Caucasian,) people. The shown place isn't far from my hometown city Mineralnie Vody. In fact, I have no relatives as well, have had a fiduciary and this is one of the main reasons I am unable to overcome the problems I am facing here in Moscow.

Human search is not about size of territory, it's about information. It is impossible to find a person if he/she does not want to be finded and can survive away from civilisation, in the middle of taiga. But if this person is active and somehow connected to other people, then it's not harder than in any other country with 150kk population.

Real story: My father's classmate let's call him Umar (around 40 y.o.) went to Russia in search of some additional seasonal work. He was offered a job to a place outside of Moscow. Upon arrival he was explained about his work that needed to be done and his passport taken. A couple of months went by and his classmate, another friend of my Father went to Moscow on a business trip and once there decided to see his old friend. He called Umar. When Umar heard the voice of his old friend on the phone he begged the guy to find take him away from the place. More nice men were involved and they barely found out the suburban house where Umar had been working. The man had been so skinny and afraid that he didn't even want to file a lawsuit against the crooks and ran away from Russia never to return there again. Morale of the story, Russia is a large country with a lot of rich greedy bastards.

Edition: Andrew Olson « Paulo Mestre You dont kill spiders, but you want to kill people. Great logic. » Anger has nothing to do with logic. Actually I doubt I would have the courage to do what I said, in the heat of the moment, that " I would kill those farmers without a second thougth" but I enjoyed the idea of being able to do it :) But I surely would, if I could, condemn them to at least 5 years (maybe even more) of forced labor.

Dear the guardian, please if you have the contacts of these men, tell them it's always a good idea to go to these places with the local police (not all police officers are on the payroll of mafias), very bad things do happen to good guys with good intentions. This cancer called human trafficking and forced labour is plaguing our world today (IT'S ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND IT'S NOT ABOUT POLITICS). Also, one of the biggest problems is after freedom then what? So, that problem needs to be solved first or else, after freeing a slave and you don't put them in a normal society where they could WORK (EVEN IF IT'S HARD LABOUR) and get paid honestly, they have a proclivity of going back to their old bosses... I know this because I have friends from Nigeria who are stuck in The UK, friends from the Philippines stuck in Australia, and I'm sure you're aware of Mexicans stuck in the US, even in Switzerland, AGAIN IT'S NOT ABOUT POLITICS, IT'S REALITY. THIS IS ABOUT RUSSIA, THERE ARE MANY GUYS FROM THE FORMER USSR IN THIS SITUATION Here.

My grandfather kept workers like these. He'd pick them up from the train station, offer them work, and then withhold their wages, saying that he was saving it for them. He thought he was doing right by them since they were alcoholics and would spend all their wages on alcohol if given the chance. He did offer them their wages in entirety when they wanted to leave, though, so I guess that makes it a bit better. Most of those who left ended up returning though. You have to fix the root of the issue: alcoholism. Alcoholism is a big problem in Russia. Blame it on the climate, the economy, the social situation, whatever. The problem starts there.

Дело не в алкоголизме. Современное рабство почти всегда на алко- или наркозависимости. И тот, кто этим пользуется - это рабовладелец.
