Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has historically been used as a natural remedy for hair loss, and some literature supports its use. In this study by Rossi et al, they wanted to see how it stacks up to one of the most common and effective medications used for hair loss, finasteride (brand names Propecia and Proscar).

Great analysis of this study. The Rossi et al paper is the best study out there for the efficacy of saw palmetto & AGA. I have mild AGA that became noticeable & concering about a year ago (I'm 62 & bodybuilding). I've been using saw palmetto 320mg (2×160mg divided dose) for about a year. No hair growth in the front but complete stabilization. However, experienced hair growth in the vertex area where my bald spot in the back is completely gone. So, I experienced basically more or less of the study outcome on saw palmetto (higher percentage of stabilization, most hair growth is seen in the vertex as opposed to the front, etc). No side-effects to report. I wish there was some hair growth in the front - but at least it has stopped the progression...so far. On saw palmetto supplements - make sure you buy from a reputable company & the manufacturer guarantees at least *85%* extract of *fatty acids & plant sterols* This is important because there are a lot of junk supplements out there.

Thank you for your kind comment and insight! Glad to hear you found something that has worked well for you. We fully agree with you regarding finding quality supplements from reputable providers. Supplements are poorly regulated in most countries, and manufacturers can generally claim whatever they want about contents of their products because there is effectively no oversight. We try to link 3rd party lab verified products in our video descriptions when we can find them, but unfortunately this isn't always available. We strongly recommend that people do their own thorough research when choosing supplement products/brands, and consult with experts/professionals if they need help.

I tried Finasteride and it KILLED my testosterone. Like ZERO interest in bumping ugles with anyone , on one occasion caused me to struggle getting me Old'fella to stand to attention to the point the woman i was with spent the next 2 months doubting if i was even into to her constantly mentioning it. I eventually ended up marrying her, then subsequently divorced her for being a complete nut bar but that's a whole different story, SMOKEN body though 🤔 In summery it proved to be a false economy. Why take something to help you get "some" with your appearance that then when you are able to "get some" Mr Floppy dominate the attention and the conversation for weeks later. To any guy wondering if Finesteride could work for you, DONT DO IT , it took me around 6 to 8 months before things fully returned to normal with the little General and that was only taking it for around 5 weeks total.

Don't drug yourself and waste money on minoxidils and transplants. Baldness begins from the deterioration of the capillary bed. On the top of the head, this is the most problematic area (the skin is thinner). Develop capillaries and keep them at the right level through long-term endurance work (long distance running). Before the race, do a head massage (smear your head with oil, you can use ordinary vegetable oil, odorless and massage your head with a soft massage brush). The Margo method has one mistake, after the massage there is no work with the capillary network through long-term endurance work (a certain difficulty is that it is only running, triathlon or rowing. Other sports do not work here, because there is a "stop phase"). Read about the capillary network and everything will become clear to you.

@Антон Милославский you're preaching to the choir, chief. I've had a full head of hear again for 4 years. Green Tea 6 times a day couple with a topical application of Apple Cidar Vinegar/water dilution each night. 3 months later I had consistent even growth back. Today I still drink green tea and watch the diet. Problem solved.

My buddy who told me about this, what worked for him, his skin was super sensitive where as I wasn't. I started small .. then kept uping the dilution mixture it untill I felt an irritation about an hour later one night, then next , 4 or 5 days from memory, didn't use as much ending with about a cap full in a large kitchen bowl every 3rd day.

What do you think of other remedies such as regularly ingesting small amounts of gelatin, or adding supplements like L-Lysine? Or topical treatments like rosemary oil or other essential oils? And why are there only 17 subs? Highly underrated content so far, I hope you keep it up.
@SupLiterate
@SupLiterate Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind comment! We've seen sparse and relatively weak literature on gelatin and lysine, though they do seem to have particular contexts where they might be helpful. We may cover some of these studies in the future, especially if we find any high quality ones. We're focused mostly on oral supplements for the time being, but we do have a handful of interesting papers on topical treatments in the pipeline as well.

Is there any difference with capsules Saw Palmetto vs an Oil Serum variant? Which is more recommended?
@SupLiterate
@SupLiterate Жыл бұрын
The short answer is... we don't really know. The longer answer: We did a quick search and couldn't find any head to head comparative research for topical versus oral saw palmetto (it might exist, but we weren't able to find anything). During our quick review, it does look like there is some literature out there supporting the use of topical saw palmetto, but we haven't looked in detail at these papers to see the quality of the research or if they have consistent results.

Just started using Saw three weeks ago or so. I'm a sucker and bought the super expensive Nutrafol brand stuff, since it has Curcumin and some other decent natural ingredients within the formula proven to be effective in hair growth. Worth checking out I believe, hoping for some solid regrowth/prevention given that I've had three small FUE transplants dating back to Sep. 2018. Nice vid, wish me luck! Cheers.
@SupLiterate
@SupLiterate Жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for commenting! We absolutely wish you the best of luck! On the topic of Nutrafol, we can't comment too specifically on this product since it doesn't list doses of active ingredients, and we haven't seen any third party verification that what is on the label is actually in the bottle. The studies on their site are done by employees of the company and are pretty low quality by most metrics, even for supplement research, which as a category tends to underperform expected quality standards for human health research. We wouldn't mind seeing higher quality research on the product, as it may very well be positive. Generally speaking, we recommend picking specific supplements and dosing regimens that have strong evidence behind them, and ideally using products with some third party lab verification (USP, NSF, consumerlabs, labdoor, etc). That way you know what you're taking, how much you're taking, and what the expected results are. There are certainly some exceptional products out there with "proprietary blends," but unless that specific blend has been rigorously tested, it's hard to know what's inside and you're leaving your results to chance. Hopefully this is helpful! Thanks again for checking us out!
