That log was amazing with not much defect. It's cicumfrence was very uniform to make for easier sawing. The vertical edger still blows me away. Wish they were around in my day. LOL!

I watch some sawmill operators do their first roll at 180 degrees. I always think why not get a good square reference by rolling 270 degrees and having the flat on the bed. Good so someone is thinking.

I agree especially when sawing for grade lumber and speed. I’ll do the other method if I’m trying to target a specific width of lumber for an order or our stock

Cut the small end first and turn after every cut. No more carrots and perfectly straight. And constant thickness boards.
