The hotdog test from @sawstop Table Saws is one of those show stoppers at woodworking and tool shows just to show exactly how quickly the table saw blade will drop when it makes contact with skin. While SawStop table saws aren't cheap, they are cheaper than having to buy a new hand, so it's worth the investment if you are on the fence.
One of the biggest questions I get whenever I post a video of one of these is why do they use a hot dog and not use their hands if the table saw is so safe? In order to complete the circuit, the spinning table saw blade has to make contact with skin, so a tiny cut will occur from the blade before it stops and drops. I don't know about you, but if I was doing a few dozen demos of this a day, I'd rather not get a ton of cuts as a volunteer in a trade show booth.
The second question I get is, what happens if you aren't holding the hot dog when it hits the blade? The circuit can't be completed so you'll get exploded hot dog.
If you do have a Sawstop, the one thing to be conscious of when in the woodshop is making sure there's no metal in your lumber of be aware of the moisture in your material as they can all trip the blade stop. For this reason, it's always good to have a spare brake so you're up and running as quickly as you can pull the blade and brake and swap it out.
And before you ask, if you need to make dado cuts, you need a separate dado specific SawStop brake to have the saw function.

@@Moraes.S Yeah, they’re really cool. The blade has a tiny electrical current through it, so the moment your skin touches it, it pushes a little piece into the bottom of the blade that immediately stops it and the blade falls into the saw table. SHITTY ASS SMUTS PPL MAKE BRO HERES MINE: you shudder with a sigh, throwing your towel and grabbing your favourite shampoo and hairbrush to get ready for your shower, holding the items in both arms to not risk dropping them as you turn on the shower. the water hits you and with a squawk you recoil from the ice-cold water, a shiver running up your spine as you stick in the tip of your foot to wait for the water to heat up to a temperature bearable enough for you to fully step in, it's lukewarm by now and you think its hot enough so without a thought you step in and let the water soak you. the warm water is nice as it glides down through your hair, wetting the locks and making them all flat against you from the weight of the water pressing them down as it pours over you and drips off the end of each strand. down your shoulder, running down along your arms until the water gathers into droplets at your fingertips like you have superpowers, its almost embarrasing how quickly you induldge in acting like you have superpowers as you flick your fingers and watch with joy as the water sprays. "pew!" you snicker to yourself as you put your arms back down and focus on brushing through your hair, working through tangles and whatnot through the [H/C] locks, putting your brush down and starting to lather up your hair with soap and shampoo, letting some conditioner sit as you focus on the rest of your body. you think your in the shower for a while, a everything shower meant everything, you shaved and whatnot too so you were feeling much better, you kind of just stayed because the water was nice and you were tired. The front doors lock jingles and suddenly your mood is back in the dumps because you already know his classical excuse. "I wAs WiTh a ReLaTiVe" you mock under your breath as you hear his deep voice call out for you, already spluttering apology after apology. "[Name]? are you home? im sorry im late again, i know i promised but i promise sweetheart i was trying to come home to you as quickly as i could, it's just work-" he cuts himself off, he seems to have figured out your in the bathroom because you hear footsteps approach the closed door, a second later a knock rings out amongst the noise of the water running. "[Name]? sweetheart talk to me, what's up with you lately?" he pleads, you can already imagine his nose scrunched up and eyebrows furrowed as his glasses nearly slide off his scrunched up face. "Go away, i don't have the energy to deal with your cheating ass." you hiss with much more venom than intended, your angry and the pot of sadness is boiling over, the bubbles popping and squelching mockingly as it comes closer and closer to the edge with each shitty excuse. "...Cheating?- [Name] i would never-" he sounds surprised, like he's genuinely sad. "Shut up, go talk with that Marie at work you always boast about so proudly to your own partner!" you sarcastically yell from your side of the door, fists balling up in frustration. "..." its almost eerie how quiet he is, normally he would be begging for you to believe him, trust him. "[Name] open the door." he commands from the other side and it hits you in all the wrong ways that his voice is so stern so suddenly, you stand your ground though. "Fuck off already, i don't wanna hear your dumb excuses, im fed up you come home late almost every day, heck you do come home late everyday!" you snarl right back, voice raising along with the pot of anger in your gut. "[Name] i will break this fucking door down if its not open in 10 seconds." he sneers, he pounds on it once and your kind of getting nervous. "just leave me alone! you don't even love me do you?" your voice is suddenly so meek its almost embarrasing, though this whole attitude switch is so sudden your a little frightened. "[Name]." he warns with another pound on the door that has you covering your ears to protect yourself from the noise. its not long before he starts quite literally pounding at the door, you can hear him slamming himself against it, over and over, you know damn well he's hurting himself to reach you but your too mad to care. you watch the door bend, the wood creaking and crying under the force as your usually sweet husband slams his bigger body against it and you can only watch in slight horror as a piece of wood flies off towards the wall, his clenched fist poking through the door, you can see the veins threatening to bulge out of it as he reaches for the doorhandle, fumbling with it as he unlocks the lock and not even a second later the door slams open much like you had earlier. His bigger frame blocks out the light streaming in from the hallway, he steps inside and the sound of his shoes hitting the bathroom floor are like the clock, ticking down, for what though?. he steps in fully, Grey eyes flying to your form with sterness and a coldness you've never seen on him, he stares at you and you stare back much weaker than his stern glare. he peels off his glasses, putting them on the bathroom counter with a clink before he shuts the door behind him, essentially trapping you with him. "Cheat?" he snarls like the word itself is disgusting on his tongue, unpleasant and bitter as he stares at you, your eyes fly to his hands making quick work of loosening that black tie you had given him for your anniversary, loosening the strap as he walks towards you with a mere few steps. "I don't love you?" he mocks you with a bitter dry chuckle that falls flat as his eyes narrow, lip curling upwards and showing off those fangs of his you used to fawn over, prod and poke at each time he showed them to you. now they're suddenly not as cute as he shows them like a predator, him the big bad wolf and you nothing more than a rabbit he wants to devour, tear to shreds and leave bleeding out on the floor. "Do i have to put a child in you to make you understand i only have eyes for you?" he huffs, its only when some of the anger melts away to confusion you notice his pale face, flushed with pink as he pants at you like a puppy, tongue threatening to loll out of his mouth as he stalks closer. he stands right infront of you, you dont miss the way his cloudy eyes glide you up and down, you've never been intimate, and he's only seen you Naked once on your honeymoon. "I want you." he says with a gruff grunt, larger hand cupping your face as he strokes your jaw, leaning in closer towards you and soaking himself under the running shower water, white shirt nearly seethrough as he lets the water soak him. you pause.. wait is it even normal for a human to have fangs anyway? "..are you.." you hesitate, now it all makes sense, weird habits of his. he nods and your suspicions are confirmed, you watch ears buried amongst his darkblue hair pin back as he stares at you. "Please.." he adds softer, voice almost high-pitch as he pants, whines at you, you hear his belt hit the floor, along with his soaked pants as he kicks them away and out of the shower without taking his eyes off you. He's rockhard through his boxers, you can only watch with wide eyes at the thick bulge, you've never even seen it, sure you kind of assumed it was a little big but seeing it for your own eyes your not even sure it's gonna fit. ".." he slams his lips against yours in a desperate frenzy, your usually calm, cool, collected husband nothing more than a mess as he paws at every part of you he can reach, whining into the kiss as he nearly starts drooling, you have to pull him back by the hair to make him seperate, he whines like an actual puppy at the loss of touch, he looks like a mess. "please..god please i need you.." he begs, its so odd to hear him whine with that deep voice of his, your kind of embarrased he's being so needy.. --------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- "f-fuck-" he whines as he presses half of his shaft inside, you cry out against the showerwall as he throbs inside you, your pressed against the glasspanel and hes right behind you, leaning over you as he bites into your shoulder with a hiss through his teeth as he shoves the rest of him inside your warm heat, you pulse around him and its clear he wants to move, wants to have you falling apart by the seams and screaming his Name already, you give a nod and thats all it takes for him to start massacre your wet cunt with his thick cock, tip nudging against a spot that has you seeing stars and legs shaking as he rams into you with the might of a car, desperately whining your name in-between thrusts as he bites down harder onto your shoulder. "need..ngh- need to..mine- need to.." he can't even string together words, mind hyper focused on the way your slippery walls suck him back in each time, he's losing his goddamn mind, all-common sense lost as your cries and moans ring throughout his mind, he wants to hear it, hear you cry harder, wants you to be his alone, only he gets to hear you, gets to touch and fuck you. "gonna..g'nna put a baby in you.." he groans into your shoulder, scattering kisses across the wet, sweaty skin as he forces you deeper and further down on his cock. --- i had fun writing this lolzies- Smut anon

For everyone saying to use your real finger, it still cuts! It just doesn't take your hand off, it's like asking someone to test a seatbelt and airbag by driving into a wall at 60mph. Also for anyone wondering how it works: There's an electrical current running through the saw and a small computer, your finger can conduct electricity so when it touches your finger the circuit completes and it sends the blade down

@@devinedgin673 No, it doesn't. I have never heard of one falsing, and I've been following these for several years now. The system monitors electrical capacitance through the blade. If it changes significantly, it means that a large, partially conductive object like a body (or a hot dog held by a body) has come into electrical contact with the blade. Materials being cut aren't in the critical range, so they won't trip it. The mechanism is similar to an air bag detonator. If triggered, there is a chemical charge that drives an aluminum extrusion into the blade, ruining it. But it stops about as close to instantly as is physically possible. That's why the blade disappears...the shock load drives the entire mechanism down into the base. It is a brilliant design. The cartridges are a bit less than $100, if memory serves, plus replacing the damaged blade. Seems like a small price to pay for saving a digit...or two.

Not in use in professional environments like woodshops. They made these tables with brake cartriges, meaning every time the device kicks in to save your hands (even a nick), you gotta pay for a new brake cartrige. SAWSTOP IS NOT THE ONLY OPTION THAT WORKS! It's a good idea to have but if you ever need it, it completely breaks your machine and it has to be fixed. Yes, that is preferable to losing fingers, etc, but it's NOT the only option and other options do not cost you so much nor does their implementation destroy your machine. Stumpy Nubs has an excellent video on this very topic. I highly suggest watching it esp since they're trying to FORCE you and me to HAVE TO purchase table saws with this on it. In the demo I saw the man performing the demo used his own hands instead of a hot dog. The blade did not retract but came to a full stop. He felt nothing when he touched the saw blade as if it was standing still. He had not even the tiniest sign on his hands that he had touched a saw blade engaged at full speed.

The most reasuring time in my life was my shop teacher, who only had 3 FULL fingers. 2 were just over half gone, half a thumb, and 4 had little tips gone. Never forget his intro. "Welcome to shop class kids! Where you will learn about how to avoid the mistakes i made growing up!".. he held up both hands. Half the class straight up were terrified. The other half thought he was doing a joke and was "hiding" the fingers. This M.F. was showing how to use the table saw in the 3rd class or so and while cutting screamed and pulled back his hand. Held it up with his missing thumb and other hand holding (the missing thumb trick) pretending he cut it, then burts out laughing.. That was the day 20 elementary students were traumatized by a joke and had trust issues. I can officially say not only did this man teach that class for over 10 years, but he could never fail a kid. One day, he asked "you havent used the table saw yet. Is it fear?" I told him: "I could give you 7 reasons why i won't." This guy laughed so damn hard he had tears and hit me back with " Hey! They said those who can't DO teach, right?" With a belly full of laughter! 🤣 🤣 Absolutely love this safety feature!

My best friend since kindergarten he was building stairs in his new house and he was using a table saw of course and he was working on the landing and there was this very difficult piece he had to cut and he took off the safety guard and he was tired but he just wanted to get finished, and he cut his pointer and index finger from the knuckle up completely off. Please don't use older model saws without the safety guard. 4 surgeries,PT and phantom pain he went thru. He is a Vet & had to teach himself to do surgery with his left hand. Y'all be careful. This saw is a miracle invention!

It really does work. During carpentry class in high-school, someone wasn't paying attention and the blade hit the breaks instantly and went down. It was loud that everyone heard it. The guy only came out with one drop of blood showing on his finger but it's better than coming out of it with a missing finger

Was wondering how this works. Here's the answer in case you did too. "At the most basic level, our technology works by continually monitoring a small electrical signal in the saw blade. The human body is conductive so the signal in the saw blade changes when skin makes contact with it. It's that change to the signal that activates the AIM safety system and engages the aluminum brake." Edit: Thank you so much for the likes! I'm glad you found it helpful ^^
